This is the fundraiser for our 40th class reunion. Had lots of fun with the classmates and their family members and friends who came out and helped support us.
Three hundred forty seven candidates for graduation in gold caps and gowns marched into the Music Hall on Sunday, May 29, 1977. Our proud parents, family and friends smiled and waved as we passed by them but none of their smiles were bigger or brighter than ours. We were excited about commencement because it was the end and a new beginning at the same time. We were going to graduate and move on to the next phase of our lives. Some of us knew what was in store for us; college, career, marriage. We had walked through the halls at Jones worrying about exams and wondering if all our hard work would payoff. Finally, all the years of hard work and determination were over and we were ready for the world.
We started our journey as members of the "Jones Family" as 525 sophomores in the fall of 1974. We came from Attucks, Cullen and Hartman Junior High schools, trying to find our place. We survived the bumps and bruises of being the new kids at a new school, made new friends from other schools and rolled on to our junior year.
As juniors we were just stuck in the middle. We weren't new, like the sophomore class, and we weren't preparing for graduation, like the senior class. But our time was coming. Two events that marked our junior year: the death of football player Barry Allen and playing Milby for the third time for the District 17-4A championship and losing.
Finally, SENIOR YEAR. And what a year it was. The football games, basketball games, Homecoming week, the parties, the prom, graduation.
The Seniors of 1977 spread our wings and soared high. We were leaders and members of many clubs and organizations on campus. We were also very prominent in sports with the boys track team's first place finish in district , Falcon boys and girls track represented at the state meet and winning the Jaycee Tournament in basketball.
