Becker School
We are a Reggio-Emilia inspired school with programs for children 15 months to 5 years of age. Our goal for our students is to be confident, happy learners.
Congregation Emanu El Becker Early Childhood Center began in 1989. Today in our NAEYC accredited school, we have over two hundred children enrolled in programs for children 15 months to 5 years of age. Becker places a high value on education and the community spirit of the synagogue. As we bridge the gap from home to school, we work with you to help your child build a strong self-image creating a

Benji is back from a ✨magical✨ vacation!
He spent a few days with our summer camp director, Ms. Alex, in the most magical place on Earth! He got to ride the ferryboat to Magic Kingdom, walk down Main Street, visit the Monsters Inc Laugh Floor (Ms. Alex’s favorite), watch a parade, and go on some super cool rides! 🎢 Benji also visited Universal Studios, where he met a fellow reptile in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter! 🧙🏼 On his way out, he even stopped by Shrek’s Swamp for a drink!
Though his summer break is coming to an end, Benji can’t wait to see all his Becker friends in a few weeks! 🦎🫶🏼
And that’s a wrap for Becker Wonder Camp 2024! ☀️🎒💚🎨✨
Our final summer Shabbat brought us all together, and seeing so many families exploring our Wonder Exhibit was simply delightful. Throughout the summer, the teachers demonstrated exceptional dedication in nurturing the children's interests, supporting their learning, and displaying remarkable flexibility on a daily basis. We appreciate your trust in us by allowing us to care for your children this summer. Guiding both the teachers and students over the past eight weeks has been a true honor!
Looking forward to reuniting with everyone in just a few weeks! Can't wait to see you all!

Summer Camp Directors
Our campers loved having author and illustrator, Joy Saxton, visit Becker yesterday! With her self-made production, backdrops, and props, she brought her worldly stories and characters to life! Thank you for a wonderful time! It was the perfect way to wrap up our amazing summer! 🎭🎟️🌏🍭🧳✨
We hope everyone can join us Friday!
Where is Benji?
This weekend, Benji went on a road trip to Nebraska with our very own camp director, Ms. Jeanie! 💜
It was so calm outside. Inside, there was lots of laughter and bustling energy with little cousins, nieces and nephews, and dogs running around. Benji got to explore the property, visit with some cows, check on hay bales, and even drive one of Ms. Jeanie’s dad’s tractors! Before the drive back to Houston, they stopped to admire the rows of corn! 🌽🌾
For this week's in-house field trip, Ilse Gonzalez, a local Houston photographer, came to Becker to share her knowledge and passion for photography! She brought various types of cameras, including film, Polaroid, point-and-shoot, and DSLR, and our campers had the opportunity to practice taking pictures themselves. They also got to ask Ilse questions about cameras, photography, and her job.
"We had an amazing time exploring photography with Ilse! The kids were absolutely thrilled to learn about the different cameras and how they work. It’s incredible how much this generation already knows about pictures and photography. A big shoutout to Ilse for making the activity so enjoyable and educational. The children had a blast, and we all learned a lot. Say cheese! 📸”

After Hurricane Beryl, it was important for us to come together to support one another and regain a sense of normalcy. We gathered for Shabbat and had a wonderful water day after. On the playground, teachers engaged the children in many different sensory activities. We showed our Becker pride by writing Becker on the side of the building and the children helped spray it clean. ✨
We hope everyone is safe and comfortable as we continue to navigate life after Beryl. Please let us know if we can be of any help to your families! 💙
Well, Benji has been continuing his travels. He has made his way to Israel! We wonder where he will go next?!?
Dear Becker families, staff, and community,
We wanted to spotlight one of very our own Becker alum and summer volunteers, Jules Pulaski. He has been a summer volunteer with us for the last two summers. During his hours of volunteering, Jules is actively involved with the children reading stories, assisting with in-house field trips, and setting up and cleaning up materials for water day.
Jules was at Becker from the young toddlers class through pre-k and had many wonderful teachers throughout the years. He has demonstrated his love for Becker by coming back every summer and being a great role model for our younger Becker children. We asked him about what keeps bringing him back to Becker and here were his responses:
“My favorite memory of Becker was the tire swing at the big playground. I remember repeatedly asking my teacher when it was time to go to the playground so I could get on the swing.”
“I come back as a volunteer every year because I know how much it means to the kids to have someone to play with and to the administration to have a helping hand. I have always been open to help out in anything I do and I love this even more because I get to interact with the kids.”
“My favorite duty as a Becker volunteer has to be assisting with the in-house field trips/hands-on activities. For instance, I have helped with ice cream day and making watermelon slushies with Ms. Jennifer. I enjoy these because I get to see some of the younger classes that I am not around as much. I also enjoy the smile and excitement when the kids realize we can make everyday items with basic ingredients (including kinetic sand and playdough).”
We want to thank Jules for all his hard work, support, and dedication to Becker! Here are some pictures of him in action!

Due to the Fourth of July holiday break and Hurricane Beryl, we are a little late sharing about our wonderful Foamy 4th Celebration...
For our Fourth of July celebration, the children enjoyed exploring bubbles in a huge foam pit. 🫧 The teachers also joined in on the fun! They showed their pride by dressing in Fourth of July clothes and fun accessories. As a thank you, we planned a little picnic snack table for teachers to enjoy. We are so thankful for them! ❤️🤍💙
Becker will be open Wednesday, July 10th and operating under normal schedule. We are excited to see everyone!
We hope everyone is safe and doing well. As Becker is still without power we are canceling camp for Tuesday. We should be up and running on Wednesday. If you need anything, please don't hesitate to reach out to any Becker staff member. Thank you.
Update about Tuesday:
The Becker School is monitoring the weather and a decision about Tuesday will be made Monday afternoon. If you need anything or have questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to a Becker Staff member. Thank you.

Where is Benji for July 4th? A little bit closer to home. He is with Ms. Nancy and her family by the bay in Bacliff!
Just a reminder there will be no school Thursday or Friday. We hope everyone has a wonderful July 4th! We will see you back on Monday, July 8th!
Our Becker students are exploring and learning all things artistic this summer at Camp Creative! This morning we enjoyed a special interactive performance by Wooden O Theatre and Young Audiences. Thank you for a fun morning of theatre!
