Gators Headed to Nationals. 🐊

The University of Houston–Downtown Wrestling Team battled hard at the conference tournament and will be sending two national qualifiers to the 2026 NCWA National Championships in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Tournament Results:

🥉 Caleb Sell – 133 lbs | 8th Place
🥉 Lelan Hernandez – 165 lbs | 4th Place (National Qualifier)
🥉 Carlos Lopez – 197 lbs | 6th Place (National Qualifier)

In a competitive field, the Gators showed toughness and heart on the mat. Proud of the fight and the continued growth of the program.

Senior Night at UHD. 🐊

Last night we honored Carlos Lopez, a 3-year varsity wrestler who represented UHD with toughness and pride at 197 & 235 lbs, finishing his career with a 28–10 record.

Thank you Carlos for your leadership, dedication, and everything you’ve given to this program.

We also want to thank Texas State , Sam Houston .wrestling , and the University of Houston for coming out and making it a great night of college wrestling.

Match Day!! Today Gators start their Post Season Quest with this weekends Texas Collegiate State Championship. Hosted at 2 weeks away from our National Qualifier tournament!

Late Post: Houston we made it back safe ! Your Gators performed strong this past weekend in Tallahassee,FL at and brought home medals in 2 of 3 weight classes!!! We would like to thank and admins and decision makers for supporting our vision and allowing us to Dream BIGGER! Their support has been vital to growing our program in the heart of Houston! 10 years down 10 more to go!

Join us Sunday, January 18th at South Oak Cliff High School for the MLK Folkstyle Classic — a tournament that's about so much more than wrestling.

This event supports youth in South Dallas and surrounding inner city communities, and helps fund an inner city wrestling league that gives new kids more opportunities to get on the mat and discover the sport we love. Every registration, every match, every cheer helps make a difference.
