Teachers embody love. They show it through their dedication, clear communication, and tireless advocacy. From extra hugs and firm guidance to unpaid tutoring and late nights planning how to differentiate and scaffold, they give far beyond the required days. They feel the pain of setbacks and the joy of successes alongside their students. They inspire, uplift, and offer hope. Teachers are love in action.
Thank you to every teacher who stands with our students — may this week honor the love, generosity, and commitment you share.

My first NIET National Conference attending as a participant and serving as a senior specialist was a whirlwind, but it was exciting and gave me the boost I needed to renew my passion for improving student outcomes by developing effective teachers and school leaders.

The highlight was co-facilitating a couple of sessions with two influential senior specialists. The session was entitled, “Coaching for Leaner Autonomy”

I’m enthusiastic about continuing my work with NIET, committed to the same goals and mission: creating high-quality educational opportunities for all students.

More to come…

It’s Sunday! As you prepare lesson plans and get ready for the week, consider ways to boost engagement and learning. Implementing small, effective strategies can enhance academic progress in your classroom. For instance, instead of saying “turn and talk,” try “turn and learn.” This phrase will guide conversations and provide students with a clear objective. A simple change in wording can redirect discussions and increase learning.

It’s Monday! I’m starting the week with a refreshed mindset, reflecting on my role as an instructional leader and mentor. How can I support my students in recognizing and embracing their potential and talents? As I ponder this, I’m considering practical ways to help them reach their goals while encouraging them to dream big. Last night’s Oscar Awards reminded me to aim for greatness, even without external recognition from peers. I’ll use Ryan Coogler’s and Michael B. Jordan’s achievements to illustrate the value of hard work, dedication, honing one’s skills, and critical thinking.

How will you get your students to dream big today? To dream beyond their current circumstances as they cling to hope and hard work.

Another week brings the task of creating a new checklist! As you prepare your list for this week, ensure that self-reflection and self-care are your top priorities. Effective leaders should consistently cultivate self-awareness, enhance their physical well-being, develop social and emotional skills, and establish solid work-life boundaries. Emphasizing self-care is essential for being a successful leader who models strong expectations.

I recently attended an Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre performance in Houston, TX. It made me reflect on the importance of creativity. Creativity plays a crucial role in shaping students who are emotionally aware, responsible, and capable of critical thinking, adaptability, and effective communication. Encouraging students to explore their imagination and cultural experiences is vital for stimulating all aspects of a child’s developing brain. It’s essential to reintroduce the arts in K-12 education, enabling students to discover and develop their creative expressions as they hone their skills and craft.

Data is crucial! Developing a plan with clear objectives will enhance teaching methods and achievements for both educators and students. A successful model considers effective ILT and PLC plans, incorporating concrete goals and growth targets driven by student needs (data).

Honoring women who uplift and motivate! Today, I’m highlighting who inspires me: my great-grandmother Julia Mernard and my mother Dewayna Clay. These remarkable women have personally inspired me by putting aside their own professional aspirations to ensure that I had a life full of opportunities. Their sacrifices allowed me the freedom to dream. Their strength empowered me, enabling me to confidently stand strong as Dr. Brandi Clay. Their journey is my journey!

Who are the women that inspire you to stand boldly in your truth?

To the Black and Brown women who are often overlooked in history, we acknowledge you. Thank you for your determination as you boldly paved a path for us. Despite facing exclusion, sexism, and prejudice, you continue to make history.
