May was such a busy and exciting month for us here at Third Coast Clay!
✨ We kicked off the month celebrating AAPI Heritage Month with our very own instructor and TCC Founder, Lotus Bermudez. Her beautiful sign wrap installation at Bagby Park transformed the iconic MIDTOWN letters into a vibrant reflection of family history, cultural memory, and the experience of being Tex-Asian in Houston. We are so proud to see her work showcased in the heart of our city.
🥣 We also had the honor of supporting Empty Bowls Houston as a sponsor. Our members, students, and instructors came together to donate hundreds of handmade bowls to help fight food insecurity in our community.
Along the way, several members of our clay community helped raise awareness for the event:
• Instructor Everett Johnson demonstrated pottery on CW39 Houston
• Member Brian Mitchell appeared on Houston Life (Channel 2)
• Studio member Adam Blount was featured in the Houston Chronicle after reaching an incredible milestone of 100 donated bowls
Because of the generosity of so many artists, volunteers, sponsors, and attendees, Empty Bowls Houston raised an incredible total of $102,351.55 for the Houston Food Bank—the highest amount raised in the event’s 20-year history—providing the equivalent of more than 307,000 meals for those in need.
Thank you to everyone who helped make May such a meaningful month. We are grateful to be part of a community that celebrates art, culture, and giving back. ❤️
