Three Interesting Tidbits

Lakewood Montessori School is a great place to work! The average tenure of our Certified Montessori teachers is over 12 years. It is our philosophy that we must first be a great place to work; then we become a great place to attend school. We tend to develop lifelong relationships. Many of our alumni return to work at Lakewood Montessori. Today, we have students attending the school with parents that grew up here as well! Our alumni are successful. Take a look around area schools and you will find that we are very well represented in the National Honor Society and Science Fairs. We absolutely dominate the Spelling Bee circuit!

Up They Go! 🧗🌳
No boost, no hand to hold, no “be careful you’ll fall.” Just a child, a structure, and the confidence to figure it out themselves. Climbing unassisted is more than just a physical milestone. When a child chooses how high to go and how to get down if needed, they’re learning to read their own body and trust their judgement, skills that don’t come from being lifted up or told what to do. Our role is to stay close, stay calm, and let them do the figuring out. A little wobble or a slow, careful step down teaches more than a warning ever could.

In Montessori classrooms, language work starts with sound. Students learn to hear the individual phonetic sounds in words long before they focus on spelling rules or handwriting. The moveable alphabet lets them build words using loose letters, without the physical challenge of writing yet holding them back. It's a beautiful bridge between spoken language and the written word.
