Small Steps Nurturing Center provides an exemplary early childhood program to instill and foster the social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual growth of economically at-risk children and their families. We provide a high-quality education, social and emotional support, a nurturing Christian environment, transportation, and nutritious meals to children ages two through six living in
poverty. Through operating two preschools in the First and Fifth Wards of Houston, Texas, Small Steps invests in the lives of our students by meeting their needs, intervening early, and setting them on a path filled with greater opportunities. Our program is free for families. Requirements for admission:
• Qualify for the free meals portion of the National School Lunch Program (below 130 percent of the national poverty line);
• Live in zip codes 77003, 77007, 77008, 77009, 77019, 77020, or 77026; and
• Agree to complete at least 10 tuition hours each year by attending parent education events and volunteering. Applications are accepted mid-January to mid-February preceding each school year.
