Dear Southwest Public Schools' Families,

Out of an abundance of caution, Southwest Public Schools will have a 1:00 PM early dismissal on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, due to the forecast for inclement weather, including the potential for heavy rainfall and street flooding in parts of the Houston area during the regular dismissal time.

This developing and somewhat unpredictable weather pattern may create hazardous travel conditions tomorrow afternoon. The safety of our students, staff, and families remains our highest priority, and we want to ensure everyone has adequate time to travel home safely before conditions potentially worsen.

Please stay tuned for further updates as we continue to monitor weather and roadway conditions.

MAP Testing is Here at ILA!

Starting this week, our Kinder through 5th grade Cardinals will be taking their MAP assessments. We know our scholars are ready to SOAR!

Here’s how you can help at home:

😴 Make sure your child gets plenty of rest each night
🍳 A protein-packed breakfast every morning to help them stay focused and energized
💧 Keep them hydrated and ready to go

Day 2 at ILA and our Cardinals are already SOARING! 🐦❤️

In 2nd grade, students are building their classroom social contracts, deciding together how they want to treat each other and learn as a community. That’s ownership from day one.

In 5th grade science, our scholars are identifying their science tools and getting ready for hands-on labs. The excitement is real and the investigations are coming!

This is what powerful learning looks like at ILA. Proud is not a big enough word.

Thank you for a great first day of school! Our hallways were filled with smiles, hugs, and excited learners, and that is exactly how we hoped to start the year.
I want to especially thank you for your patience today, particularly during arrival and dismissal. Our students and staff are settling back into their routines, and your support and understanding made all the difference. Each day will get smoother and faster.
We are so proud to partner with you this year. Together, let’s make this the best year yet for our Cardinals!
