**MODIFY HB 11 and HB 100**

Both bills include a $50 increase in the Basic Allotment with a requirement that 50% of the increase be used for salaries for teachers, counselors, librarians, and nurses. We appreciate the focus on an increase in the Basic Allotment and teacher compensation, however, this amount is insufficient to provide funding for districts to cover an increase in salaries for all positions and to account for inflation since 2019.

- The Comptroller’s CPI indicates that an increase of $900 in the Basic Allotment is necessary just to cover inflation since 2019.
- A $50 increase in the Basic Allotment equates to $7.3 million for CFISD.
- The requirement of spending 50% of this increase on salaries for teachers, counselors, librarians, and nurses does not address raises that are needed for ALL employees.
- Therefore, a $50 increase in the Basic Allotment and the requirement to use 50% on this subgroup of employees equates to approximately a 1/2% salary increase AND for only these groups of employees AND does not address inflation.

With a $32 billion surplus, there is no better time than now for the State to fund our public schools adequately.

A quick phone call TODAY to the House Public Education Committee members is highly effective. Let them know you are a taxpayer in CFISD and request a significant increase to the Basic Allotment. Be sure to give them your name and address.
