🌟Happy Weekend, friends! 🌟
Just like our incredible students and their amazing teacher, our Be the Peace Be the Hope partner in Art and socio-emotional skill-building, Christian Perkins, let's embrace the weekend with joy and positivity. 🌳✨
Here's some inspiration from one of our 5th-grade students: β€œDoing the Tree Crest activity was really cool. It helped me learn about myself and how I am strong inside. It's like being the roots of a tree, with many values and positive beliefs making me feel safe and strong when things get tough.”
May your weekend be filled with self-discovery, strength, and the comfort of knowing your own inner power. Have a wonderful time! 🌿πŸ’ͺ😊
Our heartfelt thanks to the TDECU, ENGIE, and Axens teams including Nikki Suarez, Crystal Harris, Julie Vitek, Stef Archambeau, the Hill Elementary team, our Be the Peace Be the Hope Texan-French Alliance for the Arts team and all of our supporters for your commitment to our cause. It is immensely appreciated and plays a crucial role in making a positive impact in the lives of those we serve. Thanks to your support, we can continue to empower and inspire the next generation, fostering an environment of peace, hope, empowerment and inclusion.

🌟 Finding Unity in Diversity 🌍🏑
In one of our recent Be the Peace Be the Hope socio-emotional community class, our wonderful students embarked on a creative journey about building a supportive community. Their artistry beautifully depicted the tapestry of our diverse world. 🎨

They sketched vibrant circles, each a different hue, symbolizing people from various corners of the globe. These circles gracefully encircled houses, which they identified as their own, adorned with blooming flowers representing the beauty within our community. 🌺🏑

And let's not forget our furry and feathered friends, an integral part of their surroundings.
But it didn't stop there. Hearts dotted their canvas, representing the love that binds us as a community. Lush grass sprouted, signifying, according to them, their commitment to a clean, green environment. πŸŒΏπŸ’š

Their artworks were a profound statement about the interconnectedness within our community. Each piece contributing to the greater whole, fostering unity and optimism among our students. ✨
Heartfelt thanks to the Alliance for Multicultural Community Services for your loyal support of this vital work πŸ’–

Let's cherish this beautiful reminder that, despite our differences, we are all threads in the same tapestry, and together, we create a masterpiece. πŸ’– "

Celebrating Unity and Resilience: Art's Healing Power in Turbulent Times 🌍🎨

Yesterday afternoon and last night, our Be the Peace Be the Hope team and I held art classes on the theme of community for our Afghan students.
I chose to use the symbol of a forest of trees to illustrate the idea of a community where individuals support each other, sharing the research that demonstrates how trees communicate and provide mutual support through their intricate network of roots and fungi.

During the classes, the children had the opportunity to create their own unique trees using the Zentangle technique.
In this creative environment, they shared their affection for the diverse countries represented in the room, including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Venezuela, Syria, and France. They also expressed their sadness concerning the recent earthquake in Afghanistan and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Yet, amidst these challenges, they found solace and hope in art, which brought them a sense of peace. They spoke about their aspirations for the flowers and trees they had created, hoping that they would thrive and grow, symbolizing their own resilience.
Throughout these classes, there was an exchange of love and understanding between us and the students. It was a truly beautiful and peaceful moment, providing a much-needed break during these turbulent times we all face on our planet.

Thank you Flore Thevoux for supporting us with your artistic talents, and helping me with the facilitation. Heartfelt thanks for our awesome team, including Cynthia Joelle, Diana Vasquez, Amjad Anwar and Abdul Wesal for your commitment to our students' cause!
