Congratulations to Gabriel Lazarin for being recognized as this year’s Outstanding Alumni! This award was announced and celebrated by alumni and friends who were able to attend NSGC in person last week but for those who were not in attendance, here is a snippet of what his nominees had to say:

“Pioneer. Leader. Disrupter. Challenger. Wonderer. The definitions of these words quickly come to mind when thinking of Gabriel Lazarin. While he was not the first genetic counselor to work in an industry setting, it was still at a time when genetic counselors were critical of those who took these positions. He has published numerous articles that have shifted practice in the field of prenatal genetics, presented on countless national and international stages, and trained hundreds of physicians, students and other professionals to deepen their knowledge and understanding of expanded carrier screening.

Driven by his core values of equity, empathy, integrity and loyalty, Gabe has supported change for a more inclusive culture, not only within the UTGCP, but in the multiple successful teams he has assembled over the years and the many organizations he has led. Simply put, he has shaped the way people think. He has a very special way of building up the strengths he sees in everyone around him. Gabe makes you feel noticed, valued and respected. He makes you feel like hard things are possible. He has been a loyal and dedicated supporter of the UT Genetic Counseling Program for many years and is deserving of this recognition.”

Congratulations to our 2024 Outstanding Alumni Award recipient!!!
