RICE UNIVERSITY'S RSA RANKS #3 IN UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS AND #7 IN GRADUATE PROGRAMS IN AMERICA. IT HAS ALWAYS RANKED VERY HIGH. I WAS ADMITTED TO RICE IN THE FALL OF 1954 FOR A TUITION FREE 4 YEAR PROGRAM WITHOUT AN EXAMINATION AND WAS ALSO GIVEN A FINANCIAL SCHOLARSHIP. I WAS ALSO ADMITTED FOR GRADUATE STUDIES IN 1965 UNDER SIMILAR PERKS. I PROUDLY HANG MY RICE DIPLOMA ON MY HOME/OFFICE WALL.

...OMG! I am in shock. I saw the news on the tragic accident, but the victim's name was withheld. This is the first time I have learned that it was our Vivian Guan. I was her mentor and she was one of my mentees from the RSA. Prayers for her, her family and friends.

It is with tremendous sadness that I share with you the tragic news that rising junior, Vivian Ziwei Guan was killed on July 22nd when she was hit by a Metro train while crossing the Houston Metro tracks with her bicycle. Please join us in pausing to remember an extraordinary young woman who brought the school so much vivacious energy and enthusiasm. There are simply no words to express the tragedy of this accident. Our hearts go out to her family in New Zealand.

Rice University Holiday E-Card

This was just posted to our Rice University monthly news bulletin:

"Rice School of Architecture rises in national rankings.....

The Rice School of Architecture has risen to No. 3 in a national ranking for undergraduate education in the Design Futures Council's "2013 America's Best Schools of Architecture and Design," published by DesignIntelligence."
