And that's a wrap on Maccabiah Day 2024!

A special congratulations to Team Joseph for taking home the ""W""! 🏆 Your hard work, dedication, and team spirit shone through in every event - from relay races to tug-of-war, you displayed amazing athleticism and camaraderie. Nice job!

But Maccabiah Day is about more than just winning—it's about coming together as a school community, supporting one another, and making lasting memories. Each and every one of you contributed to the spirit of the day, and for that, we thank you!

🕯️ Today, we honored Israel's Memorial Day (Yom HaZikaron) with moving student-led programming to commemorate and pay tribute to the fallen soldiers and victims of terror in Israel.

We were also privileged to host Israeli Consul General Livia Link-Raviv, who gave a heartfelt presentation on the importance of Yom HaZikaron.

💙 Today, we honor the memories of those who have lost their lives and hold them close in our hearts. May their legacies inspire us to strive for peace and unity.

🕯️ Today, on Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), we honor and remember the millions of lives lost during the Holocaust. 🕯️

This morning, Upper School students Dylan Abrams, Lilly Cutrer, Esther Gordan, Juliette Hess, Gabe Kalina, Annie Katz, Carly Katz, Alex Levy, Jacob M, Julia Miller, Ella Navon, and Nina Teichman led the special programming, which included musical performances and readings, to mark the occasion.

On this day of remembrance, we come together as a community to reflect on the past and educate ourselves about the importance of tolerance, acceptance, and standing up against hatred.

We remember. 💙

💙 ICYMI: For the second (‼️) straight year, EWS took first place in our division at this year's Maimonides Moot Court Competition! A huge congratulations to Gaby Brown '26 and Emmy Shulman '26 (as well as to Josh Danziger '24, who supported them from afar; and to Rabbi Ari Vernon, who served as their advisor and accompanied the students to the competition once again this year) for their impressive achievement. 👏 🥇

This year’s competition topic was “Privacy in the Digital Age,” specifically about whether there should be limits in place regarding the types of data that social media platforms can collect from their users, and for what purposes. ⚖️

The competition, organized by Hadar (a Jewish organization based in New York committed to developing vibrant, pluralistic, Jewish learning, prayer, and social-action experiences), brought together teams from the US, Canada, and Israel. The EWS team competed against teams from The Weber School in Atlanta, Gann Academy in Boston, Frankel Jewish Academy in Detroit, Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Maryland, the Leffell School and Luria Academy in New York, Bialik High School and Herzeliyah High School in Montreal, and The Keshet School from Mazkeret Batya, Israel.

Congratulations to Gaby, Emmy, Josh, and RAV - we are so proud of you! 💙

🌤️🌑 This afternoon, Emery Jags across campus paused to experience the solar eclipse here on Stella Link. 🌒

Together, students and teachers shared in their excitement and awe with their heads tilted upwards (and their eyes safely behind eclipse glasses) at the - admittedly cloudy - sky. But we were in luck! The clouds cleared and offered plenty of glimpses at this rare event.

Weren't able to see the eclipse for yourself? You're in luck, too! Swipe to see the view through eclipse glasses 🕶️

Yesterday, friends, family, faculty/staff, and coaches gathered in the Stein/Schechter Library for the signing ceremony of Zac Laviage ’24. Laviage will play baseball at Chapman University in the fall. ⚾

As Athletic Director Angie Gubitz highlighted in her introduction, this is an impressive feat - with only 7% of high school baseball players going on to play at the collegiate level! 🤯 Yesterday's signing was a testament to Laviage's countless hours of practice, dedication, and talent that have gone into making this dream a reality.

Join us in congratulating Laviage on this incredible accomplishment. We are so proud! 🥹

Go Jags! 🐆💙

🕊️✨ Reflecting on International Holocaust Remembrance Day: Today, we gathered to honor the memory of the millions affected by the Holocaust and stand united against intolerance.

Upper School students lit candles and spoke aloud the names of some of those lost, emphasizing the importance of remembrance and promoting a commitment to preventing future atrocities. Middle School students shared poetry and heard about the accounts of their peers' family members who survived.

Thank you to all students, teachers, and staff who participated for your commitment to education, remembrance, and fostering a culture of tolerance. Let's continue to learn from history and work towards a world where compassion prevails. ✡️🕊️
