Dive into Love by Michael Méndez Guevara is coming October 31!

High school senior Enrique Pedraza is a tennis phenom whose predominantly Latino high school can barely field a full team. The family joke is that Mexicans don’t play tennis, but Enrique spends his summers working at and attending tennis clinics at St. Benedict’s University.

There he meets first-year college student Jalen Morrell, who has a diving scholarship to St. Benedict’s. Despite their radically different backgrounds–Enrique is solidly blue collar while Jalen comes from an affluent, professional East Coast family–they strike up a friendship and eventually become a couple. Enrique feels Jalen is the perfect guy for him, but he knows his ultra-religious and racist parents will be upset that he has a boyfriend, even worse a Black one, so he’s forced to weave an intricate pattern of lies to keep the relationship hidden from them.

Enrique’s life gets even more complicated when his childhood friend and teammate, jealous of his new relationships on and off the court, gets him suspended from the lineup and outs him to his parents. Dealing with his family’s rejection, he is forced to grow up fast as he faces an uncertain future. Aren’t your parents supposed to love you more than anyone, no matter what? Michael Méndez Guevara writes another page-turner for young adults that deals with difficult real-world problems, including the impact of social media, juggling extracurricular activities and relationships with family and friends.

Congratulations to our former USLDH-Morales Memorial Foundation intern, Siani Alanis, on her acceptance into Arizona State University's Museum and Curatorial Practices Master's Program!

Siani reflected on the role her work at Arte Público Press/Recovering the US Hispanic Literary Heritage Program: "I learned how to digitize documents, create metadata, and create protocols for the collection. I learned the value of digitization in the modern age of archiving, especially as it pertains to the preservation of history of diverse populations. Working at Arte Público Press/Recovery gave me a new insight into archival work, and inspired me to want to continue doing archival work in the future."

**Call for Submissions: Chicano Visual Cultures**

*CAMINO REAL. Estudios de las Hispanidades Norteamericanas* is seeking submissions for its 2027 special issue (Issue 22), **“Chicano Visual Cultures: Art, Memory, and Identity,”** guest edited by **Violeta Izquierdo**.

The issue invites **scholarly articles, creative writing, and book reviews** exploring the historical, aesthetic, political, and social dimensions of Chicano Art and its impact on contemporary visual cultures.

Topics may include:

* The history and development of Chicano Art
* Muralism and public art
* Art and activism
* Identity, memory, and cultural representation
* The border and migration
* Chicana feminisms and gender perspectives
* Q***r art and diversity
* Photography, film, and visual culture
* Comics and graphic narratives

The film documents the 1977 National Women’s Conference, which Mondell herself attended, literally and symbolically carrying the torch of the women’s movement from Seneca Falls to Houston.
