As the music program director at YES Prep Northline Secondary and a TIA-exemplary recognized educator, Kunal has built community, mentorship, and opportunities through the music program for students to grow inside and outside the classroom.

From launching concerts and performances to helping students see themselves as future leaders, his story reflects the lasting impact great educators can have.

When Pleshette Williams joined YES Prep Southeast Elementary in 2022, she was considering leaving education altogether. Today, she is a TIA-Master designated educator, a leader on her campus, and a participant in the School Leader Incubator Program.

Today, we celebrated the Founding Class of YES Prep Hobby Secondary as they crossed the graduation stage and made history as the school’s founding graduates.

These 74 Founding Aviators have earned more than 480 acceptances to colleges, technical programs, military pathways, and other postsecondary opportunities. Their journey has been defined by resilience, determination, and the courage to help build a school community from the ground up.

We are incredibly proud of each graduate and cannot wait to see the impact they will make as they soar to new heights.

A special thank you to Hobby’s faculty and staff who have guided, challenged, encouraged, and supported these students over the past seven years. Your dedication, passion, and belief in our Aviators made this historic moment possible.

Congratulations, Class of 2026. Once an Aviator, always an Aviator! 🕶️

Being the first in your family to attend college comes with challenges, but it also comes with purpose.

For Elizabeth Ochoa, YES Prep Northside Class of 2022, that purpose has fueled her journey from Houston to Maine, where she is studying government at Colby College and preparing for a future in immigration advocacy.

As part of our First-Generation College Celebration series, Elizabeth shares how she navigated homesickness, found community, and stayed committed to creating change through education.
