Houston School of Etiquette was honored to partner with the Sparkle Girls Summit at their incredible annual event dedicated to inspiring, empowering, and uplifting young girls.

It was a privilege to connect with future leaders, share the importance of etiquette, confidence, self-respect, while encouraging every young lady to recognize her value and limitless potential.

At Houston School of Etiquette, we believe etiquette is far more than knowing which fork to use—it is about developing character, leadership, respect, confidence, and the life skills needed to succeed in every environment.

Houston School of Etiquette’s Perspective

The recent announcement that Tuskegee University has implemented a dress code that includes restrictions on bonnets, durags, pajama pants, house shoes, and similar attire has sparked important conversations across the country.

At Houston School of Etiquette, we believe this discussion is not about judging a person’s worth based on appearance. Every individual deserves dignity and respect.

Etiquette is about understanding that how we present ourselves communicates before we ever say a word. Our appearance often creates a first impression, whether we intend it to or not. Clothing sends messages about the occasion, our level of preparation, and our respect for the environment we are entering.

There is a time and place for everything. Bonnets, durags, pajama pants, and house shoes are designed for comfort and personal spaces. Just as we dress differently for a job interview, a wedding, church, or an athletic event, educational and professional environments often have expectations that reflect their values and standards.

True etiquette is never about shame or superiority. It is about making intentional choices that help us present our best selves while respecting the setting and those around us.

Our goal at Houston School of Etiquette is to educate, empower, and prepare individuals to navigate every environment with confidence, professionalism, and grace.
