Phoneme segmentation is foundational — but it’s also one of the trickiest skills to teach well.
When sounds blend together, students struggle to isolate them. When instruction jumps too quickly to letters or meaning, gaps get missed.

• Keep words short and manageable
• Say the word, then segment it
• Focus on sounds before print
I just finished an article sharing 10 effective ways to teach phoneme segmentation with practical classroom examples and support for CVC words.
