Phoneme segmentation is foundational — but it’s also one of the trickiest skills to teach well.
When sounds blend together, students struggle to isolate them. When instruction jumps too quickly to letters or meaning, gaps get missed.

This week I'm sharing a few key reminders that make a big difference:
• Model continuous sounds first
• Keep words short and manageable
• Say the word, then segment it
• Focus on sounds before print

I just finished an article sharing 10 effective ways to teach phoneme segmentation with practical classroom examples and support for CVC words.

Perfectly still and attentive isn’t the goal…LEARNING IS THE GOAL!

It’s easy to get wrapped up in the behaviors of our students and totally lose focus of the ultimate goal!

Let them wiggle! If the learning is happening…let them wiggle!!!

Your students staring at blank pages like they’ve never seen a pencil before? Yep… the mid-year writing slump is REAL. That’s exactly why I built my Differentiated Writing Prompts with Sentence Starters — 750 year-long prompts that take reluctant writers from “I don’t know what to write…” to “Can I write another one?”

Predictable layouts. Built-in support. Zero prep for you.

Give your students the clarity and confidence they’ve been missing — and reclaim your planning time.

Grab your year-long pack today and kiss the blank-page stare goodbye. 👇👇👇 Check comments for details!
