This week at NS9: tutorials start, the library opens, and hats are on twice.

Monday. Tutorials begin, the library opens 2nd period, and it is hat day for the 9th day of 9th grade, so wear a school appropriate hat. Cultura y Ritmo Spanish Club meets after school in Room 1214.

Wednesday is College Day. Wear college or university gear, hats included.

Gameday. Girls soccer open field Tuesday at 3:30 on the NS10 fields, volleyball at Davis Tuesday at 4:30, volleyball at McArthur Friday at 4:30, and Red/White football vs Lancaster Friday at 7:00 at GPISD Stadium. Soccer players bring athletic shoes, water, and your physical form.

Reminders. Shirts cover the belly and back, all shoes need a back, and no head gear except college hats on Wednesday. Under HB 1481 phones stay home or powered off and put away. Backpacks must be clear or mesh. Permanent badges come out this week, so wear yours at chest level.

Parents. Drop off between 6:15 and 6:35 AM, when the lot is wide open. And breakfast is free at 6:30 every morning.

Hats off to the 9th day of 9th grade.
Mustangs, we are nine days into the school year, and that calls for something.

On Monday, August 24, 2026, students and staff may wear their favorite school appropriate hat at NS9. One day, one lid, and a whole lot of Mustang pride.

A quick note for families: hats must be school appropriate. Anything with language, images, or logos that break dress code stays home.

Nine days of effort. Nine days of responsibility. Nine days of accountability. That is The E.R.A. of Excellence, and our freshmen are already living it.

Future Mustangs, this one is for you.

NSSH Cheer is opening the mat. Our Cheer Clinic teaches ages 4 to 13 real sideline cheer, jumps, and a full routine, then puts them on the field in front of the whole crowd. Learn it. Cheer it. Live it.

Registration is open August 14 through September 7. It is $50 and includes a clinic shirt, a snack, and lunch. Clinic day is Saturday, September 19 from 8:00AM to 12:00PM at the 9th Grade Center, and your cheerleader performs Friday, September 25 during the 1st quarter.

That mat teaches the same thing we teach in every hallway. Effort in every count, Responsibility for your spot in the formation, Accountability to the squad standing next to you. That is our E.R.A. of Excellence, and it starts young.

Cotton Bowl bound. Saturday, Sept 12, 2026 in Dallas, TX. Doors 10AM.

The Roland Parrish Classic: Battle of the High School State Champions. North Shore takes the field at 4PM. Duncanville vs DeSoto kicks it off at 12PM. Urban Trivia Live and the Texas Southern "Ocean of Soul" Marching Band bring the noise.

More than a game day: Health & Wellness Expo, College Expo, Career & Financial Empowerment Expo, Civic Duty Forum, and S.T.E.M. Expo.

Assemblies Tuesday and Wednesday at 9:00. Six competitions in five days, and the NSSH band's first live show Saturday at 10:45 at GPISD Stadium.

Reminders: shirts cover the belly and back, phones stay home under HB 1481, and backpacks must be clear or mesh. Parents, use Holly Park and not Woodforest. Breakfast is free at 6:30 every morning.

First day of school is Wednesday, August 12.

Welcome to the 2026-2027 NS9 family. Our Parent and Student Newsletter is designed to keep you informed about the activities that impact NS9 students, and this week's issue is now available.

The week ahead:

Monday, August 10: Staff development
Tuesday, August 11: Staff development
Wednesday, August 12: First day of school. The building opens at 6:30 AM and a free hot breakfast is served for all students. All NS9 students report to 1st period at NS9 at 6:55 AM, including students whose 1st period is scheduled at NS10 or North Shore Senior High. Their coach, director, or teacher has been notified. It is also College Day, so students may wear college gear, hats included.
Thursday, August 13: Picture Day. Students take ID badge photos during math class.
Friday, August 14: Cross country meet at Pearland Dawson.

Before Wednesday, please check Skyward with your student and have them write their schedule down. Under HB 1481, personal electronic devices are not permitted during the instructional day. If a student forgets their schedule, all freshman 1st period assignments will be posted throughout the building and staff will be available to help them find their class. Backpacks must be clear or mesh.

Mustang Nation, y'all showed up.

It was so nice to see and meet all of y'all at The Launch. Our staff loved walking the halls with you, answering every question, and getting a first look at the Class of 2030. Clubs, teams, cheer, and our whole NS9 family came out to welcome you home.

Now the countdown is on. We cannot wait to see y'all at 6:55 AM on Wednesday, August 12th for the first day of school and the start of your E.R.A. of Excellence: Effort. Responsibility. Accountability.

Set your alarm, bring your schedule, and walk in like you've been here before.
