Congratulations to Nash Wagner ’27 on being awarded the Max Finney Foundation scholarship! The Foundation is named in memory of Max Finney, a member of the Class of 2022, who tragically died in the summer of 2018. Scholarships are granted to young men of sound character, good scholars, those involved in the school and community, and those who exhibit leadership. It is a separate entity from Strake Jesuit and thus controls the selection process and awarding of the scholarship. This year, four seniors have been appointed to military academies! Congratulations to Cash Johnston and Patrick Sullivan on their appointments to the United States Military Academy West Point, Owen Lynch on his appointment to the Air Force Academy, and Andrew Dennis on his appointment to the United States Naval Academy! They join the ranks of SJ alumni who continue to be Men for Others by serving the country.

Our Claver and Faber House Captains brought a smile to the residents of Treemont Senior Living as they distributed goodie bags and engaged in uplifting conversations. The goodie bags were filled with heartfelt notes and snacks packed by 200 SJ students. On Friday, we had our annual House Rally to see which house would win the House Cup! Our houses host activities throughout the year to earn points and various rewards. The goal of the House System is to provide an opportunity for our students to interact across grade levels. Ranked in the top 1% of the world, Spectrum 3847 won the Excellence in Engineering Award at the FIRST Championships - FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), Curie Division! The team is ranked #22 out of 3,500 FRC teams and #2 in Texas! Great work, Spectrum 3847!

Strake Jesuit Debate competed in the Tournament of Champions (TOC) at the University of Kentucky and returned with impressive results! The TOC is the most prestigious and competitive championship tournament in the country. Justin Wen ’25 placed 2nd in Lincoln-Douglas (LD), and the team of Daniel Guo ’25 and Jason Zhao ’25 won the Public Forum (PF) division. This is the first time any school has been in the finals of both LD and PF, and the first time a team from Texas has won the upper division of the TOC in PF! Way to go, Crusaders!

The Strake Jesuit Chess team came back to campus with some hardware! Over the weekend, a group went to Baltimore and placed in the Top 10 in the nation, with 9th place for Section U1900. Right here in Houston, the team defended the championship trophy at the 2024 Catholic Schools Championship Chess Tournament. Way to go, gentlemen!

He was selected for his role as Public Relations Manager in advertising the St. Agnes Academy Performing Arts Department’s production of “AIDA”!
