Today's episode of The Probate Podcast is critical if you want to make sure your bases are covered should you get into an accident or have an illness and cannot make decisions for yourself.
My guest today is, Jana McCreary, with McCreary Law Office, PLLC. She helps us understand the importance of estate planning, but we cover so much more in our conversation. She also points out critical things for us to consider for our end-of-life plans and shares examples of what this might look like in real life.
Jana and I cover a lot of ground in this episode of estate planning, but here are some highlights:
๐ธ Who makes decisions for you before you die, but if you cannot make them for yourself?
๐ธ What happens when the estate plan is not properly drawn up? (Yikes!)
๐ธ What is the biggest risk in estate planning for people with special needs?
๐ธ What things do you need to consider before retirement?
๐ธ At what age should people begin planning for their estate?
๐ธ What's necessary in every estate plan?
My goal is to influence 50 people who start their estate plans this year. Let me know if you want to be included in this list, and I'll cheer you on!

I know. Your mama said if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. But even your mama would like my proposition.
I started The Probate Podcast with this person in mind:
๐ธ They're the spouse or adult child and oversee the care of another.
๐ธ They juggle all the things in addition to caring for their person.
๐ธ Stress keeps them up at night as they try to figure things out.

The Probate Podcast can answer these questions and more in about 30 minutes a week. It connects you to some outstanding people who live and work with senior adults. You'll hear their expertise and get a feel for whether you'd like to work with them.
Episodes span the entire spectrum of later-life transitions, and topics cover health care options, what it's like to be a caregiver, what's needed in an estate plan, how to plan when someone has special needs, how to pay for assisted living care, what is probate, and a whole lot more.
You'll want to have pen and paper handy because the guests share stories and insights that can save your family thousands of dollars, as well as your time and sanity.

Whatโs it like to have a parent with dementia? And how does a family navigate the decisions and logistics of placing a parent in memory care?
My guest this week on The Probate Podcast is Elizabeth Crocker. In tomorrowโs episode, she graciously discusses how her family is navigating this season.
You can find the YouTube video here: https://youtu.be/cJ5vxX5yeaM โRing the bellโ now and be notified when it starts tomorrow.
Iโve known Beth for about 50 years, and she is a well-loved retired theater teacher from Jersey Village High School in the Cy-Fair district. Sheโs also an adult daughter of a mom with dementia.
In tomorrowโs episode, Beth shares her heartfelt experiences about:
๐ธ What itโs like to be an out-of-state daughter when Mom is in memory care
๐ธ The process her family went through in knowing when to move Mom into a community
๐ธHow they decided on which memory care community to choose
๐ธ How Bethโs mom handled the move and more
As a family friend, this is a special episode for me. I am grateful that Beth is willing to share her story. I know listeners may be facing a similar situation and wonder how they can do it. Our hope is that they find this episode informative and encouraging.

Thatโs what weโre doing today on The Probate Podcast. This weekโs episode will go live at 3 p.m. Central, and my guest is Adam Hundley. Adam works with Houston law firm Your Legacy Legal Care, but in our conversation, he talks about his experience going through probate.
Between you and me, it seems like attorneys forget what itโs like for the rest of us, and thatโs understandable because they deal with probate all the time. But itโs different when youโve walked through it as a family member--when didn't know what to do and were afraid of doing something wrong.
Adam isnโt just someone who went through probate with family. Now heโs also certified as a Dementia Practitioner.
I hope you'll join us this afternoon at 3, and I'm sure you'll be encouraged.
