This past weekend, the United States marked 250 years since the Declaration of Independence. For Native peoples, 250 years is only one chapter of our history on this land.

Long before this country existed, Native children were being raised on these lands with dreams for their futures. Despite everything, those dreams have not disappeared. They have been carried through generations, even when systems tried to erase them.

When people talk about Native culture as something that “belongs in the past,” they miss what is right in front of them. Native children are not symbols of history, and they are not a footnote to this country’s story. They are the heart of this land we now call the United States, and they will help shape what it becomes.

At MAICC, we’re honored to continue the work of creating space where Native children can be rooted, supported, and grow into the next generation of Native leaders. ❤️
