Thinking About Becoming a Speaker? Here’s What Nobody Tells You.

Becoming a speaker sounds exciting. But once you start looking into it, the questions begin. Should you pay to speak, or is “pay to play” a waste of money? Do you need a book before you can get speaking engagements? What speaking opportunities are actually available?

Do you need a speakers bureau? A website? What should you have in your speaker toolkit? And perhaps the biggest question of all: What do you actually need to get started?

These are exactly the kinds of questions I want to explore in my upcoming Speakers Workshop for Beginners.

The goal is to help you understand the business of professional speaking before you spend time and money going in the wrong direction. We’ll spend two hours talking about what you need to know, what opportunities exist, and where to begin.

If speaking is something you’ve been considering, this is the conversation you need to have before you take the next step.

What if pushing harder is actually making things harder?

I’ve noticed how easily stress and overwhelm can turn into a cycle of trying to keep up. We organize, plan, prioritize, and keep going, hoping that the next thing we do will finally create some breathing room.

But when the mind is already under pressure, adding more effort isn’t always what creates clarity.

That’s why I created my Stress & Overwhelm Course.

Inside, I share practical tools to understand what is happening when pressure starts taking over and to develop a different way of responding. The goal is to create more calm, clarity, and space in everyday life.

If you’re curious to explore a different approach, I’d love to have you join me.

Your phone might be costing you focus.

I often talk to high-performing women about productivity, focus, and the demands we place on our brains. And sometimes, one of the simplest changes is also one of the easiest to overlook: where you put your phone.

Even when you don’t touch it, having your phone within sight can affect your ability to focus. Studies show that when the phone is visible, test scores and performance can decline.

The closer it is, the more your brain has to work to inhibit the distraction.

This is what I call situational modification. I create physical distance from the phone to create psychological distance from the distraction.

So when I need to focus, I move it.

Into another room. Into my bag. Anywhere I don’t have to see it.

For me, this is a much more practical approach to peak performance than relying on willpower alone. I can design my environment to support the way I want to work.

Try moving your phone before your next focused work session.

Not many of you know this side of me but I've been on stages since I was a child.

At age 7, I landed my first role in professional musical theater a regular one. My teen years were spent performing and singing with touring acts across Europe. Then I evolved: from performer to speaker and trainer, with countless national TV appearances on daily shows and the news — everything from short segments and sound bites to full-length debates.

Then I moved to the US, where I've shared stages with Les Brown, Joseph McClendon III, and Paul Martinelli, as well as corporate stages like GSK. I have a TEDx talk under my belt and another in the works. I'm a returning guest on Fox 26, I've spoken at national conferences, keynotes, and breakout sessions alike, and I taught public speaking at a university in Poland for over 9 years.

So, let's just say I know what I'm talking about. And recently, I had the privilege of learning directly from Maggie Cook. If you don't know who she is, look her up.

With all of that, I'm putting together a low-cost, no-fluff workshop for anyone who wants to speak: no landing page, no promo, just real, practical training. You can check out some of my work at dominikastaniewicz (dot) com.

If you're ready to learn, there's a small fee, and I promise you'll walk away with actionable tools you can use right away. Whether you're just starting out or already speaking at a mid-level, this workshop is for you. The link to sign up is in the comments

You can't tell me you're not experiencing overwhelm right now. And we both know overwhelm and stress go hand in hand and one feeds the other.
That's why I want to invite you to something different: an 8-week course built on tools that actually work. Not theory: brain health, neuroscience, and neuroencoding, translated into practice.
Each week, you get one simple exercise. Just one. Nothing that adds to your plate or overwhelms you further.
By the end, you'll walk away with real options, the ability to lower your stress and dissolve overwhelm within seconds, whenever you need to.
I tested this with multiple clients and narrowed it down to the top 8 methods that consistently work.

Your inner dialogue may be shaping what your brain looks for.

Talking to yourself isn’t weird. Your brain is listening, whether you like it or not.

When I use intentional self-talk, I’m giving my brain a clear direction. Neuroscience calls this a pre-frame: this is who I am, this is where I’m going, this is what matters.

Your brain doesn’t wait for proof. It looks for signals. When you give it a clear direction, you help it recognize what to look for, what to amplify, and what to ignore.

This can be especially powerful before going to sleep. Right before sleep, brain plasticity increases, and identity-aligned self-talk can stick. The goal isn’t to force performance. It’s to help your brain recognize opportunities that already match who you are.

That’s what I mean when I say that peak performance is about clarity. When you know what matters and where you’re going, you give your brain something clear to work with.

What are you telling your brain today?

Are you exhausted from pretending everything is fine?

I think we’ve put too much pressure on ourselves to always be positive, joyful, patient, and nice to everyone.

But anger, frustration, irritation, sadness, and difficult emotional states are all part of being human.

What matters is learning how to acknowledge what you’re feeling instead of pushing it away.

A healthy brain can recognize an emotion, name it, process it, and eventually move out of a state that is no longer serving you. Naming and accepting what you feel can help shorten the time you remain caught in that emotional state.

Difficult emotions are part of being human. You can feel frustrated, angry, or sad without needing to pretend that everything is fine.

And if you find yourself staying in those feelings for too long or struggling to regulate them, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

If this feels familiar, reach out to me. I work with leaders and women leaders who may look like they have it all together on the outside, while life feels very different on the inside.

The “perfect time” to change may never come.

I see many successful women waiting until everything is ready before they make a change.

There is always one more thing to prepare before you feel ready. And while you are getting everything in place, the change you want can keep getting pushed further away.

Our brains learn and optimize through small habits that are repeated consistently. Over time, repetition can create additional layers of myelin around neural pathways, helping reactions become more automatic and reducing the need to rely on the prefrontal cortex to make the same decisions repeatedly.

That’s why I encourage my clients to start much smaller than they think they need to.

Choose one tiny habit. Repeat it. Then repeat it again.

Big events can also contribute to changes in the brain, but they can come through traumatic experiences, and I certainly wouldn’t wish those upon anyone.

Small, repeated habits give you a practical way to work toward change.

And over time, those habits can become part of who you are.

What is one tiny habit you could start repeating today?

What happens when you combine a classic productivity framework with neuroscience?

I recently had the opportunity to explore that question during a Lunch & Learn with the team at Cockrell Interests.

I went deep into the Getting Things Done framework and looked at how its different steps relate to brain function and brain health. It turns out that many parts of the process can support the optimization of brain functioning.

Getting Things Done is also a very process-driven framework, which makes it particularly useful in an environment where people are managing multiple tasks.

It would not be as effective for creative work or brainstorming.

That was one of the things I enjoyed most about designing this training: taking a familiar productivity framework and exploring how it can be applied more intentionally.

The team at Cockrell Interests brought curiosity, asked great questions, and were willing to challenge some of their existing views. That is exactly what good training should do.

And the feedback was fantastic:

100% found the session valuable.
93% wanted to hear it again.
89% found it actionable.

I’m grateful to the team at Cockrell Interests for the opportunity to create and deliver this Lunch & Learn.

Now it’s time to apply the knowledge and see how it works in practice.

Your brain loves clarity.
