What can you create with 100 of the same object? 📸

Art 2: Photography students explored that question by creating temporary installations and documenting them through photography. Using the Art Cycle—brainstorm, experiment, practice, critique, revise and reflect—they considered how materials, location, lighting and interaction with people could shape their work.

After photographing their installations, students discussed how the elements of art could strengthen abstract ideas and communicate meaning. This hands-on project challenged them to see everyday objects and familiar spaces in creative new ways!

CVHS senior Apollo Tan strikes gold once again in Korea! 🥇

This year, the taekwondo athlete began competing in the Adult Under 30 Individual Recognized Poomsae division for athletes ages 18–30. Last month, he earned bronze at the 2026 USA Taekwondo National Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina. He then traveled to Seoul, South Korea, for the World Taekwondo-ranked 2026 Kimunyong Cup—and won gold!

Apollo competed in a field of 54 athletes representing more than 10 countries. Four of his five opponents were Korean, and he was the only non-Korean athlete in his division to reach the podium.

Congratulations, Apollo, on this incredible international achievement! We are so proud of you!

📚 Welcome to the Rhino Crash, Cecilia Michel! 🦏

We’re excited to welcome Ms. Cecilia Michel to Carnegie Vanguard!

Ms. Michel brings 15 years of teaching experience in HISD, much of it serving Houston’s East End community. What she loves most about teaching is helping students accomplish goals they once thought were out of reach. As a first-generation college graduate, she is passionate about creating a classroom where every student feels valued and sees what is possible for their future. 💙

Outside the classroom, Ms. Michel stays busy! She has completed more than five Aramco Half Marathons 🏃‍♀️, enjoys gardening in her native pollinator-friendly garden 🌻🦋, and loves to read. Her current reading challenge is to explore more novels in Spanish, with the goal of reading a book by an author from each state of Mexico. 🇲🇽📖

At Carnegie, she looks forward to helping our Rhinos discover the power of language and how it shapes the way we communicate, think, and experience the world.

Please join us in welcoming Ms. Michel to CVHS! 💙🦏

🦏 From Rhino to Faculty—Welcome Back, Mr. Javier Rodriguez! 🎉

For Mr. Javier Rodriguez, Carnegie Vanguard is more than a school—it’s a place he considers life transforming. Now, he’s returning to the Rhino Crash in a new role: teacher! 💙

Mr. Rodriguez joins CVHS for his second year in education and will be teaching AP Human Geography and Mexican American Studies. He brings a deep love of teaching, urbanism, and exploring pathways to social mobility. During his undergraduate years, he also gained experience in politics, government, and the start-up world.

Outside the classroom, you might find Mr. Rodriguez reading, exploring Houston’s neighborhoods and parks, or getting involved in his community. 📚🌳🏙️

As a Carnegie alumnus himself, Mr. Rodriguez believes deeply in the potential of our Rhinos and encourages his students to “envision a world that can be” while approaching its challenges with curiosity and a desire to make a difference.

We’re proud to welcome another Rhino home. Please join us in welcoming Mr. Rodriguez back to Carnegie Vanguard! 🦏💙
