Many of you have asked how I run my Math Stations, so here’s exactly what we do 👇🏼

I have 5 stations:
✨ Independent Practice
✨ Technology
✨ Math Fluency
✨ Solve the Room
✨ Math Games

We do three 15-minute rounds each day.

And you’ll notice I don’t include my teacher table as one of the stations. 🙌🏼

That’s intentional!

It gives me the flexibility to pull different students for small groups based on what they need that day without having to rearrange my entire rotation schedule.

These Math Station Rotation Slides have been a lifesaver for keeping everything organized and making transitions so much smoother.

They’re editable, include 90+ center icons, timers, Math and Reading rotation templates, and work with both Google Slides and PowerPoint.

I thought I was doing math small groups right…

But I was actually just reteaching my mini lesson to the same group of students every day. 😬

And by the time I finished?

That group had gotten 20+ minutes of my time while my other students never got the chance to meet with me.

I wasn’t seeing their misconceptions.
I wasn’t hearing their strategies.
I wasn’t challenging the students who were ready for more.

That’s when I realized:

Small group time isn’t for reteaching everything students just heard.

It’s for watching students think and giving them the support they need in that moment.

That shift completely changed the way I approached math small groups. 💜

If you’re trying to simplify your 3rd grade math small groups, comment “SMALL GROUP” and I’ll send you my free framework.

I used to think math small groups meant reteaching the mini lesson to my lowest group.

Now I see small group time differently.

MODEL → GUIDE → ASSESS

My students already received whole-group instruction. Small group is where I get to watch them think, uncover misconceptions, and adjust the level of support based on what I see.

Same grade-level learning goal.
Different amount of support. 💜
