VSA College Leadership Workshop (CLW)

The 18th annual College Leadership Workshop will be held on Saturday, October 24th, 2020. Due to COVID, this year's workshop will be fully virtual.

Registration is now open to all high school students and parents! Traditionally held on the Rice University campus, the College Leadership Workshop is an event designed to empower high school students with the knowledge and incentive to apply to college. The event is led entirely by student volunteers. Due to COVID, CLW will be fully virtual this year! Previous years' workshops have been great successes, and we aim to make this year's workshop even better. Although geared toward Vietnamese and other Asian-American students, the event is open to all interested students. Most of the day will be spent with college students who will share their college experiences as well as any difficulties they had while applying to college. A number of the college students are Rice University students, and high school students will have ample opportunities to ask these undergraduates any questions they may have. We would like to stress that our goal for the day is not to recruit students to Rice. Our main goal is helping students along in the application process no matter what school they are interested in. We may draw more examples from our experience in applying to Rice, but ultimately, we would like to encourage students to apply to any school that they wish to attend. So how do you register? Fill out this form: https://forms.gle/CcxCv4yNyF8qPw6AA

This year, Rice VSA is proud to be hosting its 18th annual College Leadership Workshop (CLW) on Saturday, October 24th, 2020, from 9:00AM to 4:30PM. Due to COVID, this year's workshop is fully virtual, so we'd like to invite everyone from across the country to attend if y'all would like. Interested? Register here: https://forms.gle/6pXb6hsUY7bYup689

This one-day program will include many informative and engaging workshops featuring students and guest speakers covering the subjects of college admissions, financial aid, college application essays, extracurricular activities, and leadership. Student participants will be divided into small groups led by current college students from both Rice University and other Houston-area universities, in which they will have the opportunity to learn about student life and to get answers to their questions from current students themselves in a casual setting. In addition, student participants will have the opportunity to have their college application essays reviewed, as well be eligible to win scholarship money. Parent participants, if they choose to join us, will be able to attend some student workshops, as well as parent workshops made with resources specifically for parents.

Although CLW incorporates certain resources that are specific to Asian-American families (e.g. translators, information on Asian-American scholarships), we strongly encourage all interested high school students of all years from all backgrounds and their parents to participate.

For more information, please visit the CLW webpage and check the dropdown menus at the top for more options. We look forward to having you at our event!

[10/13/19]   We have extended online sales until Wednesday, October 16th! You can find them here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/college-leadership-workshop-clw-2019-tickets-73588319645

She went on to pursue a joint degree in law from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law and a Master in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

Cindy Dinh is a second-generation Vietnamese American who is passionate about bringing immigrant voices into mainstream politics. In 2016, she began her legal career as a law clerk to the Honorable Gray H. One of the highlights of her clerkship was delivering the keynote speech to over 1,200 new Americans at a naturalization ceremony as the Judge swore them in as U.S. Citizens. She works at Mayer Brown LLP as a civil litigator resolving commercial disputes. Ms. Dinh volunteers with the Asian American Bar Association and is a board member of the Federal Bar Association and Rice University Community of Asian Alumni.
