Alief Hicks Elementary School

Alief Hicks Elementary School Alief ISD is a high-performing, comprehensive K-12 public school district. Howard J. Since then, his name has been synonymous with Alief.

Hicks Elementary School was named after Howard Hicks, a World War II veteran. He moved to Alief from Beaumont to handle public relations for the Alief Chamber of Commerce. Howard Hicks was described as a believer in youth, a champion for education, and a man whose integrity was without question. It seemed fitting that Alief ISD’s twentieth elementary school would be named after a man who was such

an important part of the Alief community. On August 15, 1996, Howard J. Hicks Elementary School opened its doors to 969 learners. The school was designed to utilize technology as one of the primary tools for learning. Classrooms surround the library media center, where students research topics using 21st Century tools. An integrated computer network and a video delivery system enrich the academic programs of all students. Classroom teachers, along with specialists in language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, ESL, technology, music, physical education, and art provide a rich, well-balanced foundation. Specialized programs include bilingual education, ESL, gifted education, and computerized interventions. The librarian, counselor, nurse, special education staff, and paraprofessional staff also work closely with classroom teachers to provide the best possible education for each and every child. Working together, the Hicks staff, parents, business partners, district personnel, and community members form a network of resources and opportunities which allows students to maximize their potential.
