28-29 May! Demystify ! This two half-day course will present the basic methods of in a simple manner using diagrams and figures to illustrate the principles. Some mathematics will be used and explained with images where possible.

The course will identify what is meant by inversion and review the fundamentals of linear algebra with a visual emphasis on inversion techniques. This course is designed to be followed by anyone with a broad knowledge of seismic processing. Basic knowledge of linear algebra will be an advantage, but is not necessary.

Submit your abstracts for the 4D Forum — Insight to Actions.

We are particularly interested in case studies from operators of worldwide projects. What insights in reservoir behavior, overburden effects, or subsurface were gained with 4D methods and how were those insights acted on. We would like to balance contributions from well-known industry projects with those from emerging fields and basins that have not been heavily published.

Join us for this 2-half-day virtual course on Passive Wave Methods Using Ambient Noise: From 1D Sounding to 3D High-resolution Imaging. With Koichi Hayashi.

May 7-8, 2024 | 8:00 am – 12:00 pm (GMT-6)

The short course will include presentations on theory, , , and applications. The theory will introduce the fundamental idea of ambient noise, the Fourier transform, phase velocity, the wave equation, and . The mathematics will be described with simple numerical examples and course attendees will be able to follow the calculations using Excel or MATLAB. The theory will particularly focus on the Spatial Autocorrelation (S**C) method of processing ambient noise obtained from spatially un-aliased receiver arrays. Small-scale data acquisition using 10 to 15 receivers in a 2D array (microtremor array measurements-MAM) will be performed. Industry-standard software will be used for data processing. Many examples of passive surface wave methods applied to geotechnical, environmental, and engineering will also be introduced.

The behind land noise is fascinating. Much of the noise is caused by the very , less than 30m, which often has ultra slow velocities. This land seismic noise is often complex and irregular — much more so than simple waves. This lecture will give a physical intuition of this noise generation through wave propagation movies and synthetic data examples with realistic models. Better understanding the physics can lead to better appreciation and customization of the acquisition and processing for the noise types.
