We love our Texas Southern University family.

Because of that love, we endeavor to journey with our sisters and brothers in the spirit of communion, encourage them to live the social justice message of Jesus Christ, form their Christian conscience, and accompany them throughout their academic journey so they may become faithful leaders and dutiful servants. We endeavor to help nurture their academic maturity by providing a safe, clean, and fu

Tonight at 7 PM 📖Lenten Bible Study — Week 2The Letter of James: Holiness in Speech

Tonight’s theme: Why become a saint? Can I become a saint?A saint is not just someone who works miracles or spends long hours in church. A saint is someone who says yes to the will of God.

Jesus says in John 15:5:“I am the vine, you are the branches… because without me you can do nothing.”

Holiness is possible—not because we are strong on our own, but because grace is real. When we remain connected to Christ, even our words can be transformed. Our speech can become more truthful, more charitable, more peaceful, and more like His.

Join us tonight as we continue our Lenten journey through the Letter of James and reflect on how God is calling us to holiness—right where we are.

Dear students, faculty, and staff: join the Newman center for Ash Wednesday Mass today at noon as we begin the holy season of Lent.

We begin Lent marked with ashes—not to perform holiness, but to tell the truth: we need mercy, and God is rich in it.

“Rend your hearts, not your garments.” (Joel 2:13)
“Be merciful, O Lord, for we have sinned.” (Psalm 51)
“Now is the acceptable time… now is the day of salvation.” (2 Cor 6:2)

And Jesus reminds us: pray, fast, and give—in secret—because the Father who sees in secret is the One who heals what’s real. (Matthew 6)

Today’s move: return with your whole heart.

📌 Pick one simple practice for Lent:
🤲 almsgiving • 🙏 prayer • 🍞 fasting
