Finding the right job becomes a crucial concern to all students early in their education. The South Texas College of Law Career Resource Center (CRC) begins the student’s orientation into the legal profession during the first year of law school. While each student is ultimately responsible for their own career planning, the CRC assists with helping define the path for students to go where they wan
t after graduation. The comprehensive collaboration of programs, individual counseling, and coaching begins during a student’s first semester and continues throughout their time in law school. Programs focus on resume and cover letter writing, interviewing skills, mock interviews, networking skills, and judicial clerkships among other things. Individual counseling is based on the students’ needs and desires. In addition, the downtown Houston location provides students access to a vibrant legal market that includes opportunities at law firms, corporations, non-profits, government agencies, and courts. The efforts of the CRC help students pursue these opportunities. Each fall and spring, the CRC coordinates interviews with regional and national law firms, corporations, government agencies, and other employers. Students also have the opportunity to interview off-campus at a variety of programs that include the Sunbelt Minority Recruiting Program, Public Service Career Fair, Texas in Washington Recruitment Program and the Patent Law Job Fair. The CRC counselors work with students to create individualized job search plans. The resources of the CRC office provides access to local, national, and specialized directories relevant to jobs in the legal market.
