The winner of the 2025 Guy V. Lewis Award will be announced on Tuesday, April 1.

Members of the sports media and coaches have begun submitting their ballots for the 2025 Guy V. Lewis Award. Voting ends March 26.

The winner will be announced at a reception on Tuesday, April 1.

The Guy V. Lewis Award Committee sends prayers and condolences to the family and friends of Jerry Lee Woodley, Jr.

Jerry passed away on January 15, 2025.

Jerry was a dedicated supporter of the Guy V. Lewis Award.

Congratulations to Shelton Henderson, 2024 Guy V Lewis Award finalist, for being chosen to the 12-member 2024 USA Basketball Men’s U18 National Team.

The team will compete at the 2024 FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup from June 3-9 in Buenos Aires.

All 12 athletes are making their national team debuts with USA Basketball.

Leading the 2024 USA U18 National Team is head coach Tommy Lloyd (University of Arizona). He is assisted by Grant McCasland (Texas Tech University) and Micah Shrewsberry (University of Notre Dame).

Chris McDermott, winner of the 2024 Guy V Lewis Award, announced he's taking his talents to Texas A&M.

Chris McDermott, from Booker T. Washington, is the winner of the 2024 Guy V. Lewis Award.

Chris is pictured with Jerome Solomon (Houston Chronicle columnist) and Terry Lewis (Mrs. Dena and Coach Lewis' youngest son).

This season, McDermott averaged 20.3 points, 18.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.8 blocks per game. He recorded 26 double-doubles, corralled 20-plus rebounds 14 times. McDermott also ranks 2nd in his graduating class. He helped lead Washington to the Regional Finals 3 years in a row. McDermott was named 4A Region III District 21 Most Valuable Player each of the last 3 seasons as Washington lost a grand total of one district game during those 3 seasons. In 2023, McDermott helped lead Washington to the UIL state tournament for the first time in school history.

Jaland Lowe -- winner of the 2023 Guy V. Lewis Award -- was named ACC Rookie of the Week Monday as announced by the league office following outstanding efforts against Syracuse and at No. 7 Duke.

For the seventh time this season, redshirt-freshman Tulsa guard PJ Haggerty -- winner of the 2022 Guy V. Lewis Award -- was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Monday afternoon.

In two games against UTSA and at SMU, Haggerty averaged 22.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 60 percent from the floor, 55.6 percent on 3-pointers and a perfect 9-of-9 from the charity stripe.
