MLCPA is an all-boys 6-12 magnet school located in the heart of historic Fifth Ward, in Houston, Texas. Our school’s mission is to develop the full potential of every student by fostering an educational environment that encourages critical thinking, inspires student confidence, and nurtures both the intellectual and social development necessary to graduate college and become successful leaders in

the global community. Though our school is located in a historically under serviced area, we see this as an opportunity to provide enriching experiences that will impact our students for years to come, and bring forth a new generation of engineers, where minorities are better represented in these innovative careers. Through our STEM program, we strive to encourage our students into careers in the ever-increasing realm of engineering. As the technological sector continues to grow and evolve, our students will be primed to stand out as diverse members of the workforce, skilled in all areas of engineering design, from software development to the manufacture of the intricate electrical and mechanical systems those software applications can manipulate, and the social and environmental impact these systems may affect. Our students will have a masterful grasp of the top down approach to design, and understand the important relationship between software and the mechanical, electrical, an automation systems they control. We firmly believe our school will become a beacon of innovation and a haven for students who wish to expand their experiences in mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering, as well as all other branches of the Engineering Tree.

’s RoboKnights have done it again, and are showing that they are a force to be reckoned with. Not only are they the top ranked UIL team in the FIRST Robotics Competition for ALL of , they’ve also ranked 34th in Texas! Their hard work and dedication throughout the year has earned them an invite to the prestigious State Championships in Austin, TX, where they will compete against some of the best robotics teams out there.

But we need your help to get our fantastic boys there. The travel and lodging expenses related to this trip are something we hope to keep to a minimum for our boys, and we are hoping to raise the majority, if not all, the funds for them. How amazing would it be for them to not have to worry about HOW they will get there, but only focus on WHAT amazing things they will get to do when they do get there! Please help out our engineers and programmers by donating toward their travel expenses for UIL state championships. Every little bit helps!

Wow!! We started off today with some of my guys competing in an app development expo, where they won 1st place and a $3400 cash prize, then hightailed it to the other side of town for our FRC Robotics Competition, where we made it to Quarterfinals and received the Judges Award for overall robot performance and exemplary display of gracious professionalism and sportsmanship. Big things are happening at Mickey Leland College Prep, and we couldn't possibly be more proud of our boys!
