Tuesday, April 2, 2026, in Leander, Texas, at H-E-B Plus! in Leander, was one of those moments that really stayed with me.
Rick San Juan and Chelsea C. Nguyen, serving as his sighted guide, decided to try something new at H-E-B Plus—testing the free Be My Eyes app to see if he could complete his grocery shopping independently.
And honestly… we didn’t know what to expect.
With the help of a live virtual volunteer, Rick was guided through the entire process—finding items, scanning groceries, bagging them, and even navigating self-checkout. Step by step, it all came together.
And it worked.
There was a moment of pause—realizing just how powerful something like this can be. Not just convenience, but confidence. Not just assistance, but independence.
Chelsea captured the experience as it unfolded, witnessing firsthand what’s possible when the right tools and support come together.
This is what accessibility looks like.
This is what independence feels like.
📱 The Be My Eyes app is completely free on iOS and Android.
Rick San Juan is shopping independently at HEB+ using the Be My Eyes app.
With support from a live virtual volunteer, he’s guided on how to scan, bag, and locate checkout—making the entire experience more accessible.
As his sighted guide, Chelsea C. Nguyen captured this moment in action.
We recently visited a local HEB and are exploring future opportunities to support more inclusive shopping experiences for blind and visually impaired customers. This is what independence can look like with the right tools and support.
✨ CN Vision Image Consulting, LLC is honored to be a guest on the Art Beauty Podcast, where we tell the real truth about the fake.
shared her journey as a licensed cosmetologist and image consultant — from teaching hair and color for CHI beauty schools to teaching non-visual and adaptive beauty techniques for individuals who are blind, visually impaired, or disabled.
Beauty is more than what you see in the mirror. It’s independence. It’s confidence. It’s empowerment.
Whether it's mapping your face with touch, using temperature to apply foundation, or mastering eyeliner through orientation and pressure.
This work is about helping others feel professional, prepared, and powerful — whether they can see themselves or not.
October is also White Cane Safety Awareness Month, and we're grateful to use our platform to advocate for accessibility and independence. 🤍
Thank you for having us and for helping share this mission.

On Labor Day, Rick San Juan, who is totally blind, and Chelsea Nguyen, his sighted guide, went parasailing with Third Coast Parasail at Crystal Beach.
On the ride, they would take turns with other people to go up the sail. As they were the first group to go, they were attached to the sail of a boat. As they were up in the sky, Chelsea would tell Rick about the surroundings in the air. When their turn was over, Captains Rob and Kloe would bring down the sail.
Once they came down, they spent the rest of the trip enjoying the water splashing from the jet boat.
Special thanks to Third Coast Parasail with Captain Rob and Kloe.

I had a great day giving my University of Houston interns, Luis Gonzalez and Patience Kimaru, a tour of the City of Houston Metropolitan Multi-Service Center.
I love working with them and teaching the skills they will need for their professional careers. I love their youth energy and the fresh insight they bring.
Having interns is beneficial to a company and the interns. They give the business a fresh perspective and new ideas. At the same time, the interns learn valuable skills and insight in a professional setting.
I am also glad to teach them more about accessibility and places that offer it to everyone.
This past Labor Day, I had the absolute joy of taking my friend San Juan, who is totally blind, out jet skiing at Crystal Beach, Texas — and yes, we proved that blind and visually impaired people can experience the thrill of the water just like everyone else! 🌊💙
Because the wind and engine were so loud, Rick and I came up with our own tactile communication system:
👈 tap on his left shoulder to go left
👉 tap on his right shoulder to go right
🫶 hands on the back of his neck to straighten out
And let me tell you… he rode that jet ski like a pro!
Huge thank-you to Crystal Beach Jet Skis and the amazing team — McDaniel, McDaniel, and McDaniel — for supporting inclusive adventures like this.

“Empathy is seeing with the eyes of another, listening with the ears of another, and feeling with the heart of another.” 💙
Let this week begin with a renewed sense of compassion and purpose.

Exciting news — I’m officially part of the Beyond Our Sight (BOS) team! 💙
I’m so grateful to join an incredible group of changemakers redefining what it means to lead with empathy. Together with Kim from BP and the Chairman of the Lighthouse of Houston for the Blind, we’re creating corporate experiences that open hearts, shift mindsets, and build true understanding.
Standing in the Lighthouse today reminded me how powerful it is when community, purpose, and innovation come together.
