"I'm exposing the horrific abuse and neglect I've endured from my mother. Her actions are monstrous: she killed her own mother, attempted to murder my father, and nearly took the life of my elder Carothers. She embezzled from Kid Care, using her borderline personality disorder and narcissism to manipulate everyone around her.
As a child, I suffered relentless abuse. My mother pimped me out to her friends, subjecting me to r**e and molestation. When I sought help, I was blamed and disbelieved. The church became complicit in my suffering.
On June 21st, I spoke with Pastor Gilbert Williams of the Berean Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Houston, Texas about my mother preventing me from seeing my dying father. I tried to stop her from killing him, but my actions gave her an excuse to keep me away. Pastor Williams could have easily suggested sending someone to monitor me if she was afraid, but instead, he sided with her. I sent him information on borderline personality disorder and narcissism, which he didn't even read. I'm being vilified for my reaction to my mother's murderous behavior.
People think I'm saying this for attention. Why would a decorated special operations war hero fabricate stories about someone murdering their father? I specialized in killing, trained in it, and witnessed it in Iraq. If anyone would recognize murder, it's me.
For 38 years - since I was 12 - I've been saying my mother doesn't love me and begging for help. Instead of support, I was silenced. The Seventh-Day Adventist Church failed me utterly. Now, at 50, I refuse to be silenced. I'm speaking out to ensure that when my mother dies, no one can deny my truth.
Here's a hard truth: When children come for help, they're expected to be cool, calm, and collected. This makes no sense. If they're overly emotional and out of control, they're accused of lying. If they're calm, they might be believed, but neither gets the help they need. It's just that one is more manageable and agreeable than the other. This twisted logic silences victims and protects abusers.
This isn't just my story - it's a call for accountability and change. I'm starting an organization to protect children from this culture of neglect and abuse. Children within the Black community often don't have a voice, and it's time that stops.
Throughout my life, instead of telling my mother to be a parent, they've told me to be the bigger person and be the son. I've always gotten that burden.
To every institution and individual who turned a blind eye: your complacency ends now. To every survivor who's been silenced: your voice matters. It's time for the truth to be heard, no matter how uncomfortable it makes those in power.
I am not a victim. I am a survivor, and I will be heard."
