The Raising Readers Program
Making learning to read fun for children and easier on parents
✨ Exciting news, friends! ✨
After lots of conversations with parents who’ve used my Raising Readers program, one thing has been clear: they want more personalized support for their child’s reading journey.
So guess what? I’m now offering 1:1 tutoring sessions to go along with the course! 🎉
That means families can now choose virtual sessions from anywhere or in-person sessions right here in Houston (location-dependent).
These sessions are perfect for:
✅ New readers who need extra guidance
✅ Kids who’ve taken the course and need a refresher
✅ Families who want targeted support from a former reading teacher who gets it
📅 Spots open this Friday, April 4th, and there will be a limited number so I can keep things personalized.
If you’re interested or know a parent who might be, send me a direct message.
Thanks for cheering me on as I expand this work. Let’s raise confident readers together. 💛📚
A quick message to parents who feel like something’s off with their child’s reading progress…
Maybe your child guesses words, skips over them, or gets frustrated when they’re asked to read aloud.
You’ve tried to be patient.
You’ve trusted the school’s process.
But deep down, something doesn’t feel right.
🔍 You’re not imagining it.
Far too many kids are being asked to read books that are way above their level—without being taught how to decode new words.
The bigger issue?
There’s still no consensus in many schools on how to teach reading—even though decades of research support a structured, explicit approach grounded in the science of reading.
🧠 Reading is not a guessing game.
It’s a skill that can—and should—be taught with clear phonics instruction and consistent practice.
If your child is in Kindergarten through 2nd grade, one of the best things you can do this week is:
➡️ Take inventory of their reading progress.
Start with a simple phonics assessment to figure out which sounds they’ve mastered and where they may need more support.
Reading should feel empowering—not frustrating.
And it starts with knowing where your child truly is.
If you want a tool to support that process or just need help knowing what to look for, I’m happy to share resources. Just reach out. 💛

🚀 Exciting Update for Raising Readers! 📚✨
I’ve been working behind the scenes to make the Raising Readers Student Workbook even better—because every child deserves reading materials that match what they’ve been taught, not texts that leave them frustrated.
Too often, kids are asked to read books that are above their level, making them feel like they’re struggling when really, they just need the right tools! That’s why I’ve enhanced the workbook to give them more practice, more support, and more success.
🔥 What’s new? 🔥
✅ 2 Decodable Passages Per Module—Helping kids practice words they’ve actually learned.
✅ Parent-Led Comprehension Questions—Making it easier to check for understanding.
✅ Sentence Reading + Handwriting Practice—Strengthening fluency & writing at the same time!
✅ Engaging Illustrations—Giving kids fun visuals that align with the passages.
This update is all about building confident, capable readers! If you know a parent with a child in Kindergarten through 2nd grade, share this with them! Let’s set kids up for success in reading! 💛📖
Want your child to get great reading instruction? Let’s chat! Send me a message. 💬
I hear this all the time and I want all parents out there to know the truth.

🌟🌟 I’m still excited about the testimony I shared with you over the weekend. And I want to give you a little more detail about why I’m still all smiles over here.
Usually, when you want to partner with a district, you must complete that one district’s response for proposal (RFP) process. And every district has their own preferences for how they want to connect and vet potential vendors. This is very doable but can take a long time.
As an approved vendor of Harris County Department of Education, my company can do business with any of the following school districts:
Aldine ISD
Alief ISD
Channelview ISD
Clear Creek ISD
Crosby ISD
Cypress-Fairbanks ISD
Dayton ISD
Deer Park ISD
Galena Park ISD
Goose Creek ISD
Houston ISD
Huffman ISD
Humble ISD
Katy ISD
Klein ISD
La Porte ISD
New Caney ISD
Pasadena ISD
Pearland ISD
Sheldon ISD
Spring Branch ISD
Spring ISD
Stafford MSD
Tomball ISD
Waller ISD
PLUS HCDE divisions
If you see your school district and are in need of literacy coaching and direct literacy intervention services, let’s connect!

✨ BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! ✨
This year has been one of the toughest yet, filled with challenges I never saw coming. But through it all, I held onto hope, praying for a breakthrough. 🙏🏾 And now, it’s finally here! 🎉
I’m beyond excited to share that my business is now an approved vendor for Harris County Department of Education! This means I can offer my literacy services to schools across Harris County—something I’ve dreamed about for years. 💙
If you know me, you know how passionate I am about helping new reading teachers build confidence in their classrooms and guiding students to become master readers. 📚 Too many kids are falling behind in reading, and it’s my mission to change that—one school at a time.
If you know any educators or schools in Harris County who could use literacy support (coaching, consulting, or direct intervention), send them my way. Together, we can disrupt the stats and make sure every child gets the reading foundation they deserve! 💪🏾
A few days ago, I told you all reading DOES NOT happen by osmosis. And my dear friend asked a great question: Why not?
I decided to post a more detailed blog to answer that question:https://www.rebeccaguillory.com/blog-raising-readers/why-learning-to-read-doesnt-happen-automatically
The blog gives you details about: the process of learning to read, the role of the brain in reading, the skills required before reading, and the importance of explicit instruction.
I love questions, so feel free to DM me any that come up for you- especially if you have a child who's currently learning how to read.

If you have a young child starting school this week, let me give you a quick tip:
Learning to read DOES NOT happen by osmosis. Despite what many people believe, children don’t just wake up one day knowing how to read. There is a process. There are skills that must be mastered even before you move to trying to get your child to read words off a page.
If it “just happened naturally” then every school across the world would have 100% of students reading at a mastery level.
But unfortunately that is not our reality.
I’ve got two things to help you this week:
Read my blog “Top 10 Questions All Parents Should Ask Their Child’s Reading Teacher” so you can start the year informed.
Watch my on-demand webinar “Reading With Ease: How To Guarantee Your Child’s Reading Success Without Losing Your Patience” to learn how to increase your child’s reading level in 3 weeks or less.
I’ll put the link to both resources in the comments.
Happy new school year!
