working in the energy industry in the Houston area expressed a desire to have frequent energy-related engagements aligned with Duke Alumni Association’s (DAA) mission and supported by DAA. At the Duke Houston Open Board Meeting realized on October 29, 2014, presided by DAA, Duke Houston Open Board members welcomed Jon Vague’s (Fuqua MBA) proposed project of implementing periodic business networking and insight gatherings focused on energy business. To that end, Jon Vague volunteered to assemble and coordinate an initial group of diverse Duke alumni volunteers interested in developing The Dukes -Houston Business Network and the related The Dukes -Energy Industry Network and Insight. We offered quarterly breakfast discussion meetings, quarterly networking meet-ups and a virtual platform for networking, discussions and insights. Our group included a network of accomplished Duke alums from diverse schools and geographic locations, guests and community friends. We have received endorsement from the Duke and Fuqua Alumni Associations and Fuqua’s Center for Energy, Development and Global Environment (EDGE). The Dukes -Energy Business Network and Insight offered quarterly breakfast discussion meetings, quarterly networking meet-ups and a virtual platform for networking, discussions and insights. Meetings are usually held the third Thursday of the month. Breakfast Discussion Meetings are limited capacity and require RSVP and advance payment of $35/person through Duke Alumni Association. For Open Networking Meet-Ups, RSVP is not required, guests are welcome, and there is no cost other than own consumption.

Controversial Energy and Environment Theme Triggers High Interest and Participation for The Dukes Energy Breakfast Discussion on Thursday, March 19, 2015, at St. Regis Houston Hotel's Re*****on Restaurant Red Room
Do not be left out of "The Morality of Fossil Fuels, Human Development and the Environment"! While the group’s breakfast event is almost at full capacity, there is still time to register through Duke Alumni Association. The required registration closes the night of Monday, March 16, and registration cannot be done at the event. At The Dukes Energy Breakfast Discussion on March 19, Mr. Ron Harrell, Chairman Emeritus of Ryder Scott, will deliver a PowerPoint presentation on a large screen, walking participants through the main arguments in “The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels,” by Duke alum and philosopher Alex Epstein. Harrell, an accomplished petroleum engineer and former industry executive, will welcome diverse viewpoints. There is no need to read the book in advance. Be ready to share ideas and viewpoints to enrich our group’s dialogue. Breakfast will be punctually served in the St. Regis Houston Hotel's Re*****on Restaurant Red Room at 7:15 am. The Red Room will open to participants at 7 am.
