Our Spring Break Camp is ready and will be led by Mr. Tony! It’s going to be a fun, socially engaging experience for all participants.
This year, we’re excited to introduce Musical Theater — an exciting and dynamic change to our program! Musical theater is truly Mr. Tony’s wheelhouse from his acting days in New York City, and we can’t wait for him to share his passion and experience with our campers.
What better way to spend Spring Break than singing, acting, building confidence, and making new friends?
We look forward to an unforgettable week! 🎭🎶

Our lessons at the Baytown Community Center through Baytown Parks & Recreation are focused on building music in our community.
We especially recommend group piano lessons for beginners. Learning in a group setting is a fun, engaging way to:
Build strong practice habits
Develop proper music etiquette
Strengthen listening and ensemble skills
Grow confidence
In celebration of Black History Month, we honor Lonnie Liston Smith — a visionary pianist and composer who blended jazz, soul, and spiritual soundscapes to create music that brought people together.
“A Garden of Peace” has been sampled by various artist but the original is simply beautiful.

Art Tatum (1909–1956) was one of the most influential jazz pianists of all time. Virtually self-taught and visually impaired, Tatum reshaped piano playing with lightning-fast runs, rich harmonies, and unmatched technique. His brilliance inspired generations of musicians—from Oscar Peterson to Herbie Hancock—and set a new standard for what the piano could do.
🎶 Why group piano lessons matter (just like jazz):
• Students learn by listening and observing others
• Builds confidence through shared performance experiences
• Encourages collaboration, rhythm, and musical conversation
• Makes learning fun, social, and motivating
Art Tatum reminds us that music grows stronger in community—whether on the bandstand or in the classroom.

Today’s artist is a classically trained pianist, powerhouse vocalist, and fearless activist. Her name is Nina Simone and she used her music to tell the truth. Her classical foundation shaped a sound that blended jazz, blues, and gospel, while songs like “Mississippi Goddam” and “To Be Young, Gifted and Black” proved that music is one of the most powerful forms of protest.
Nina Simone reminds us that true musicianship comes from discipline, purpose, and courage.

Quincy Jones is a legendary musician, composer, and producer whose work helped shape modern music. He began as a jazz trumpeter and arranger, studied composition, and went on to produce and arrange music across jazz, R&B, pop, film, and television. Quincy Jones is best known for producing Michael Jackson’s Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad, but his influence extends far beyond pop music. He also composed film scores, arranged for big bands, and opened doors for Black artists and executives in the music industry. His career shows students the power of musical training, versatility, and leadership.
This is Maxwell performing several pieces for us.
Happy History Month! Go listen to Quincy Jones!
