All but one of these principals gracefully exited their positions—by force, of course. Wheatly's principal was clearly out of line for wanting to call the Houston Fire Department during a gas leak. I mean, who needs safety protocols when you have Mike Miles propaganda?

David Knittle, with only a decade of experience at Burbank Middle School, just didn't make the cut because he wasn't Mike Miles' NES golden child. Obviously, that's the kind of groundbreaking leadership we should all aspire to. And let's not forget the joyful celebration of people being "encouraged" to quit—truly a masterclass in compassion and workplace morale. Bravo!

State takeovers aren't new. Nor are they known for innovation, but for creating school voids, cutting services, and firing key staff, promising to close learning gaps. All of our teachers work hard to make sure that they are teaching us how to be principled and smart. When you suddenly take out the entire Harvard leader team, it causes confusion and makes it harder for everyone to do their job.

Gaines said she filed a complaint with the Texas Education Agency after she received information with inaccurate dates and information about special education students outlined in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

She requested documents after she saw students with IEPs were placed in her Algebra I class, the most advanced math class for eighth grade. She said she didn't get those plans in a timely manner — after the school year started — so she didn't know if the students had been cleared for the class through what's called Admission, Review and Dismissal meetings.

"I'm asking questions because I want to be able to help them with whatever accommodations that they have," Gaines told the Chronicle. "So I sent an email to the admin and special education department asking about the full IEPs."

At least two Patrick Henry Middle School teachers were placed on home duty in September.
