Congrats to Madeline Smith-Johnson, who recently defended their Masters Thesis: “The Doctor is In – Who is Left Out? Disparities in Healthcare Access for Older Adults by Gender and Sexual Orientation.” Here's Madeline with advisor Bridget Gorman, and giving the PAA poster version.

Yesterday, Dan Bolger successfully defended his dissertation, "Spatial and Cultural Dimensions of Social Service Access in Majority Black Neighborhoods." Here he is pictured (center) with his committee: Professors James Elliott, Rachel Kimbro, Elaine Howard Ecklund, and Alexander Byrd.

Dan has made many contributions to our department and the The Religion and Public Life Program at Rice University. He has produced stellar research on religion, poverty, and urban inequality. Many thanks and CONGRATULATIONS, soon-to-be Dr. Bolger!

Congratulations to Jee Sun (Jasmin) Lee, who was just selected as a fellow for the 2022 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships Program!

Jasmin is a Rice Sociology PhD student and a research assistant at the Houston Education Research Consortium. Jasmin's research focuses on understanding and reducing educational inequality.

Can't wait to hear Dr. Chantal Hailey of Univ of Texas-Austin Sociology present her research in our speaker series next Tuesday!

🦉Congrats to soon-to-be Rice Soc PhD Allan Farrell! Allan will be starting as an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Beloit College Beloit College in the Fall.

We are so grateful for his contributions to our dept, and excited to follow the next stage of his career! Be on the lookout for more of his excellent research on racial identity.
