A huge thank you to Living Hope Wheelchair Association for stopping by our booth, learning more about H.E.L.P. for Amputees, and helping us share our mission with the disability community!

🎥 In this video, our own Shepherd, one of the key organizers and facilitators behind our H.E.L.P. meetings, and Karina, one of our amazing amputee volunteers, share what H.E.L.P. is all about and how amputees and their families can get connected at all four of our support group locations.

We’re so grateful to Living Hope for using their platform to help spread the word. Connections like these are exactly what the Abilities Expo is all about - bringing organizations, resources, and people together to strengthen our disability community. 💙

H.E.L.P. for Amputees is proud to share this month’s calendar from one of our valued community partners, the Houston Parks and Recreation Department’s Adaptive Sports and Recreation Division!

WHO: Youth and adults with physical disabilities and differing abilities, including individuals with limb loss, wheelchair users, and anyone interested in adaptive recreation. Age requirements may vary by activity.

WHAT: Participants can stay active, meet new people, and try a variety of adaptive sports and recreational activities throughout July:

Mondays
💧 9:00–10:00 AM — Water Fitness
💃 12:00–1:00 PM — Line Dance
🔴 1:00–2:00 PM — Boccia
🏃 6:00–8:00 PM — Track and Field Practice
🏀 6:00–9:00 PM — Wheelchair Basketball

Tuesdays
🏓 8:00 AM–12:00 PM — Adaptive Pickleball
⭐ 6:00–8:00 PM — Kids Night
⚾ 6:00–8:00 PM — Beep Baseball

Wednesdays
💧 9:00–10:00 AM — Water Fitness
🎯 1:00–2:00 PM — Bingo
🎯 2:00–4:00 PM — Adaptive Air Rifles

WHY PARTICIPATE? Adaptive recreation is a great way to improve strength and mobility, build confidence, explore new interests, and connect with a supportive community. Beginners are encouraged to learn more—previous sports experience is not always necessary!

HOW TO GET STARTED: Review the attached calendar and contact Houston Parks before attending to confirm registration requirements, available space, equipment, age requirements, and any assistance or accommodations you may need. Many programs are offered free of charge, and equipment is available for certain activities.

Last Thursday, our H.E.L.P. Amputee Support Group came together to celebrate Mother's Day and honor the village of people who lift us up every day - mothers, caregivers, mentors, family, and friends. 🌷

From heartfelt presentations to meaningful connections, laughter, and community - this is what it's all about. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this such a special day! 💐

It truly takes a village, and we're so grateful for ours. 💕

Due to room availability, today’s meeting at Memorial Hermann Southwest will now be held downstairs in the Admiral Room on the Concourse “C” Level near the cafeteria.
