Dig this! Major discoveries made my University of Houston Provost and archaeologist Diane Z. Chase alongside husband Arlen Chase.
They met in college, got married, then spent 40 years digging through the jungle together. Now, this UH archaeologist couple has discovered the tomb of Maya royalty.
“He’s my best friend as well as my husband,” Diane Chase said. “He’s my co-principal investigator; he’s all of those things. We’re just a really good team.”
The tomb is the first ever confirmed to belong to a ruler of Caracol — a discovery that rewrites what historians thought they knew about Maya civilization.
