Primary Forest Days are based on inquiry and play, and aim to develop essential skills and knowledge about nature through nature. After learning about poison ivy, the children collected leaves that were not poison ivy, identified which trees they belonged to, and sorted them according to their size. They learned about nature and practiced mathematical concepts through nature! Go Gators! 🍃 🌲 🌳
Ms. Rutherford's First Grade class explored the Fay Forest and Bayou while applying what they learned about senses.
They focused on these questions:
👃 What do you smell?
👀 What do you see?
👂 What do you hear?
👆 What is safe to touch?
Team yellow or blue!? 💙💛
Last Friday in PE, Fourth and Fifth Grade Students were "drafted" onto a team for the year. Throughout the year teams will earn points for sportsmanship, teamwork, and skill acquisition. This is another example of how Fay prepares students to be leaders for today and the future. Whether they are celebrating a win, processing a loss, or boosting up a peer, students leave Fay know how to be part of a team!
We’re all smiles because it’s Friday AND crazy sock day! Have a great weekend, Gators! 🧦😎🐊
Mr. Scoville surprised PII students as today’s mystery reader! 📚 They read, “The Important Book” by Margaret Wise Brown, which teaches children about the importance of everyday objects.

Ready…set…garden! 🌿🐊🪴Our first Garden Day of the year is in the books! Students returned to the garden for hands on learning and exploration. We can’t wait to see all the plants grown, and even better the lessons learned this year.
We had a spec-taco-ular start to our day! 🌮🥳 We’re celebrating meeting our goal of 100% Faculty and Staff contributions to our Annual Fund with breakfast tacos! Thank you faculty and staff for your contributions and commitment to our school, students, and mission.
More information on how you can support our Annual Fund coming next week!
Happy rainy Friday, Gators! 🐊☔️ Enjoy the long weekend and we will see you on Tuesday!
Over the past couple of weeks, Principal Sherman has been visiting K-5 classrooms to read the book, “After the Fall,” which tells the story of how Humpty Dumpty developed the courage to face his fears after falling off of a wall where he once loved to sit. 📚 After the story, the classes did a related activity where they were asked to balance a feather on their hands. 🪶They were then asked how their grade level experience was similar to balancing the feather. Some popular answers consisted of the same themes found in the book. Persisting and adjusting when faced with challenges, having courage, and trying your best.
Great lessons for our Gators as they continue on their own leadership journeys. Way to go Gators and Principal Sherman!
A day exploring and learning in the Fay Forest is a great day! 🌿🌲
On Primary Forest Days children inquire into big concepts of nature and play in the woods. Our teachers aim to nurture learner-led exploration and discovery through meaningful experiences for positive lifelong impacts. Children's well-being is the foundation of our teachers’ practice, and by recognizing their student’s social, emotional, and physical needs, they provide guidance and facilitation for their time in nature.

5 Years Ago (captured by my sweet 8
Year old daughter - her first phone ever.)
Probably the WORST and BEST day of my life. Harvey 2017. Completely flooded my parent’s home in Friendswood, Texas. We used their home for such sweet serene quiet getaways. Morgan celebrated his first Birthday there! I don’t know if anyone knows but it’s so much quieter in Friendswood, Texas. Like so quiet.
We had cleaned out 10 homes plus our beloved The Fay School prior to making to my Mom’s house. We SHOULD have been prepared throwing out peoples’s beloved books and clothes and curtains etc (so many black shoes!). We were not ready for it to become personal.
I posted for help to clean out their home the day before. I didn’t have just a couple friends but 19 people show up to help clean out their devastated home. 19!!!!! WTF!!!! I thought maybe 3 folks would help us. Some I just kept in touch with via Facebook, some from work, mostly from CrossFit (thank you Greg Glassman), many from Morgan and wrestling ( the BEST sport!) and so many from AllSport Athletics.
David and I could not have done this without all of our amazing friends and family. The worst and the best of times. I love all of you. Thank you thank you.
Also, PTSD is a real thing. For anyone. Triggers are all around us. Harvey is #1 for us.
And yes, my mom still asks about that mattress! 😡🤣🤦🏼♀️🥹
This is your Monday reminder to try your best and be responsible from our Fifth Grade Leaders! 🐊✨They came up with their own classroom rules and then created posters in small groups. Way to lead, Gators!
This week our students have been exploring their summer reading book, “The Wild Robot.” 📖 🤖 Today Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade students participated in a culminating activity where they joined small groups and wrote collaborative stories about their robot creations.
