The HDDA is excited to announce the 2027 HDD Technology & Equipment Conference coming to the Williamson County Expo Center in Taylor, Texas, May 3–6, 2027.

Built exclusively for the horizontal directional drilling industry, this event will bring together contractors, manufacturers, suppliers, and industry leaders for four days of equipment demonstrations, education, and networking.

As we begin to layout the conference program and demonstration schedule, we invite you to take a few minutes to complete our planning survey. Your feedback will help us create an event that delivers the most value to the HDD industry.

Member Spotlight: Jerry Nugent & Holly Pipe Corp

If you've attended an HDDA event, chances are you've met Jerry Nugent (pictured left, alongside his brother.)

Jerry is one of those people who always shows up with a smile, a handshake, and a genuine interest in the people around him. Whether it's a conference, meeting, fundraiser, or industry event, he's consistently there supporting the HDD community and helping strengthen the relationships that make this industry special.

As President of Holly Pipe Corp, Jerry continues the family legacy built by his father, leading a company that has served the drilling industry for more than 40 years. Based in Louisiana, Holly Pipe has built a reputation for quality products, dependable service, and a commitment to helping contractors succeed in the field.

What stands out most about Jerry is the way he treats people. He is a strong supporter of the HDD industry, an active participant in the HDDA, and someone who is always willing to share his experience, offer encouragement, and help others whenever he can.

Members like Jerry are a big part of what makes this association strong. His positive attitude, dedication to the industry, and willingness to get involved make him a valued member of the HDDA community.

What does it actually take to create a new Operator Qualification course?

In this HDDA member update, HDDA Board Member Cory Baker provides a behind-the-scenes look at the Operator Qualification training courses currently being developed by the association and why this work matters to the future of the HDD industry.

Developing the course content is only part of the process. Once a course is completed, there is still a significant amount of work required to get that training into the appropriate systems, gain industry acceptance, and move it toward becoming a recognized requirement. Cory discusses the challenges involved, the progress being made, and the long-term value these courses can provide for contractors, owners, operators, and the industry as a whole.

The HDDA continues to invest in training and workforce development initiatives that help strengthen our industry, improve safety, and create a more consistent standard for HDD professionals across the country.
