On March 7, 2025 Stand Up for Science is hosting a series of rallies in Washington D.C. and nationwide at local state capitols. They are mobilizing to keep science free from interference and censorship by government officials and to remind our society that science is at its best when it includes everyone and when it stands to improve people’s lives.

In sympathy with Stand Up for Science and to raise awareness of the current policy changes and challenges happening in the U.S., we are organizing a concurrent peaceful demonstration on Rice Campus. The demonstration will take place on March 7, 2025 from 11:30am to 1:30pm in the Graduate Commons space (outside Valhalla).

Food and water will be provided, as well as materials to make signs, but feel free to bring your own (cardboard or poster board, NO STICKS)!

Join a peaceful demonstration to raise awareness and protect scientific research, education, and communication, for the progress, prosperity, and well-being of all!

Rice Student Association

The Student Association began in 1919 after Rice students decided that they needed to be able to govern themselves. Over the course of the last 100 years, the SA has worked tirelessly to improve student life. For example, in the early 1960’s the Senate voted to desegregate Rice, which began the university’s desegregation process. More recently. the SA has been responsible for helping implement the intramural sports program at Rice, creating the Critical Thinking in Sexuality Course, implementing Saturday Night Dinner, creating DACA.rice.edu, and more.

The SA is composed of all of the undergraduates of Rice University. It is led by the SA Exec team, which is composed of the SA President, Internal Vice President, External Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The legislative body of the SA is the Senate, which is composed of college presidents, college senators, and the SA exec team. In addition, the SA has appointed positions, standing committees, student initiative committees, temporary committees, and university standing committees.

To learn more about the organization, we encourage you to check out SA.rice.edu or attend one of our Senates, which are held every Monday night at 9 PM in Farnsworth Pavilion.
