We are thrilled by amount of support for the Meal Swipe Donation Program this fall semester. Thank you to our partners .ssi and for collaborating with us and adopting some of the new changes we asked for this semester’s swipe donation program including:

-raising the amount of swipes you can donate from 10 to 15
-moving the timeline to earlier in the semester so we can get meals out to students as soon as possible.
-Providing two deadlines so those who need swipes immediately are able to get them

We were able to set a new benchmark in terms of the number of swipes donated, beating out the previous peak of around 1500 swipes. So far, SSI has been able to accommodate 145 student requests.

If you donated, thank you doing so. If you didn’t, please consider donating when the spring meal swipe donation program is announced!

In collaborations with our partners we were able to register 291 new students to vote in Harris County during O-Week! Special thanks to .jeng (Hanszen ‘25) our Director of Government Relations for leading the voting registration effort last week!

EVENT UPDATE: Our Welcome Back Town Hall & NSR info session will be in Herring 100 due to excessive heat. Torchy’s and drinks will be available outside for people to pick up!

Pull up to the first Senate of the Fall Semester y’all. We have Hu’s 🤤

Rice Student Association

The Student Association began in 1919 after Rice students decided that they needed to be able to govern themselves. Over the course of the last 100 years, the SA has worked tirelessly to improve student life. For example, in the early 1960’s the Senate voted to desegregate Rice, which began the university’s desegregation process. More recently. the SA has been responsible for helping implement the intramural sports program at Rice, creating the Critical Thinking in Sexuality Course, implementing Saturday Night Dinner, creating DACA.rice.edu, and more.

The SA is composed of all of the undergraduates of Rice University. It is led by the SA Exec team, which is composed of the SA President, Internal Vice President, External Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The legislative body of the SA is the Senate, which is composed of college presidents, college senators, and the SA exec team. In addition, the SA has appointed positions, standing committees, student initiative committees, temporary committees, and university standing committees.

To learn more about the organization, we encourage you to check out SA.rice.edu or attend one of our Senates, which are held every Monday night at 9 PM in Farnsworth Pavilion.
