LOOKOUT WE HAVE OUR VERY FIRST MIDDLE SCHOOL MEMBER OF THE 12 KEY CLUUUUUUUB - IT'S MAAARCOOOOOOO GAAAARCIIAAAAAAAAAA BWEBWEBWEBWEEEOOOOOO
Marco has been playing the saxophone since August at and has absolutely picked things up and run with it. Let's be super clear, Marco follows the same rules as everyone else with no exceptions for younger students. Minimum tempo is 16th notes at 50bpm, all 12 keys in a row at the same tempo, 5 do-overs, and he cracked it at 60bpm! Once students are in the 12 key club, we run all 12 scales in the full saxophone range every lesson to build tone and technique.
Saxophone full range scales are not in an octave based format. You start on the name of the scale, go as high as possible in the key (written F/F-sharp/G-flat), down as low as possible (written B/B-flat/A-sharp), and back to the starting note, all in the same rhythm. I explain this because it is particularly extraordinary for a middle school student to achieve this, and MARCO HAS TOTALLY DONE IT!!! He's in the honor band on saxophone, the symphonic band on percussion, and in the orchestra on cello (his first instrument).
