A great loss for the city and for our community.

Reverend William “Bill” Lawson’s activism played a key role in peacefully desegregating Houston in the 1960s. Those actions caught the attention of Martin Luther King Jr. who invited Reverend Lawson to join him in Atlanta during the civil rights era to make sure people of color have a seat at the table.

Rest Well Rev. Lawson 🙏🏽

"I wanted to get my GED to advance at work. Granny kept telling me I could do it. My husband, kids and family encouraged me. In the end, my mother and grandmother got their GED as well. All three generations graduated at the same time!" - Alexus, GED grad, https://ged.com/graduatestories/alexus/

Attention fans!!! When you think Houston Astros baseball history the most recent names probably jump out, and they should. They earned it. However, if you dig a little deeper, you'll find a name many have missed.... But East Side University - ESUVCLC didn't.

J.C "The Spider" Hartman played in the Negro Leagues, is a retired Houston policeman, a barber’s college graduate, cut Willie Mays’ hair, AND debuted with the Col .45s at the age of 28 breaking local MLB equity and inclusion boundaries in the 1960s. Read the following article to learn more! Get your tickets or table and don't miss this opportunity to meet a living baseball legend who paved the way for others to access and have opportunities through Major League Baseball in Houston!
