The future of education is already here. In fact, it’s been here for about 6 years. Ivy Greene Academy, founded in 2020, uses a unique model that includes two hours of individualized self paced learning, with an afternoon that is focused on groupwork and hands-on projects.

Here’s what our model is built on:

1. Adult Guides who mentor and coach, and gently nudge to ensure students are moving along and getting the extra push when they need it.

2. Individualized self-paced learning in the core skills, so students achieve mastery before moving on to the next topic. This prevents boredom for students who excel in a topic and prevents learning gaps in areas of struggle.

3. A focus on real-world skills that make all the difference - leadership, communication, conflict resolution, working well with others, problem-solving, mental resilience, and critical thinking.

4. A close-knit microschool environment that focuses on a culture of kindness and togetherness. There is no tolerance for bullying at Ivy Greene.

5. Real-World Experiences: Annual entrepreneurship requirements starting at age 5 (through our annual Children’s Business Fair), yearly apprenticeship requirements starting at age 12, a focus on internships in high school years.

6. A commitment to inclusivity - our reasonable annual tuition reflects our belief that a high quality education should not only be for the uber wealthy.

There are 300+ Actons around the world, but there’s only one in the state of Mississippi! Each is a little different, and it’s important you find the school that feels like the right fit for you!

What if the key to better focus, creativity, and emotional resilience wasn’t more worksheets, but more unstructured outdoor play?

Right now, children are struggling in ways we can’t ignore:

~ Creativity is declining. Studies show children are less able to think outside the box than they were 30 years ago.
~ Emotional regulation is weaker. More children are struggling with anxiety, frustration, and impulsivity.
~ Stress levels are higher than ever. The pressure of long school hours, rigid schedules, and constant testing is taking a toll.

Instead of doubling down on academics, what if we did the opposite? At our school, we prioritize 2 hours of outdoor unstructured play daily for our mixed-age Sparks studio (ages 4-7/8) and also regularly for ages 8-11.

And the benefits speak for themselves:

~ Creativity soars. Open-ended play strengthens problem-solving, imagination, and innovation-key skills for academic success.
~ Emotional regulation improves. Nature, movement, and social play help children manage big feelings and build resilience.
~ Stress melts away. Play releases endorphins, reduces cortisol, and makes learning joyful again.

The research is clear: more play = better learning. Is your child getting enough time to be a child?

Sometimes, children just need to get their hands dirty. More like, all the time. And the research backs it up. Time in nature is actually essential for development.

~ Builds stronger sensory processing and motor skills
~ Increases creativity and independent thinking
~ Reduces stress and improves emotional regulation

At Ivy Greene, we are big on getting children outdoors and giving them plenty of unstructured play time. This might mean more laundry for you, but it's well worth it.

What you get in return is joy, creativing, confidence, and a child who loves going to school.

If your 5 year old falls apart over small mistakes, it’s not about being dramatic - it’s actually about fear. Many children this age believe mistakes mean they are wrong, which represents a fixed mindset way of thinking. At Ivy Greene, we normalize mistakes as part of learning, which helps change this way of thinking into a growth mindset. You can also foster this at home!

Research shows that children who develop a growth mindset are more likely to persist through challenges later in life and achieve higher academic and career success. Studies also link early emotional regulation skills to better mental health, stronger relationships, and higher life satisfaction in adulthood.

Instead of rescuing children from discomfort, we allow them to feel uncertain without risk of judgement and we coach them through it so they see that mistakes are normal and a chance to learn. When children stop fearing “wrong,” they are less afraid of trying harder things, according to Dr. Carol Dweck, psychologist and author of the bestseller Mindset: The New Psychology of success.

That’s why we prioritize fostering growth mindset in our students, so they grow into adults who are resilient, confident, and capable of navigating real life and all of its’ challenges.

What if your child’s first business wasn’t just about making money, but about discovering who they are and their impact on the world?

That’s exactly what happens during our annual Entrepreneurship Quest.

Before a single product is made or a price tag is set, we ask deep questions:
~ What do you love doing?
~ What are you naturally good at?
~ What makes you excited to get out of bed in the morning?

These questions help students reflect on their unique gifts, passions, and community, because we believe that real entrepreneurship starts with self-awareness and introspection.

From there, we ask:
~ What problems do you see in the world?
~ How can your interests help someone else?
Suddenly, business becomes more than just selling. It becomes a way to serve, to create with meaning and to connect identity with impact.

At our Children’s Business Fair, students bring these ideas to life. They are able to pitch to potential customers, answer questions in person, and manage their earnings. These real-life skills can only be built through experiences, not books.

At Ivy Greene, we don’t just raise young entrepreneurs.
We raise purpose-driven problem solvers who are prepared with real-world skills.
