Mechanical Engineering
What brought you to Rice University?
Definitely the warm and welcoming community. I attended a summer camp here during my junior year of high school, and both the staff and fellow campmates were really amazing people! I also found out that because of how inviting the community is, it's just as easy to pivot that into stuff like research opportunities or networking.
What advice would you give to high school you?
Don't focus too much on what others are doing. Find what sticks out to you, and keep honing your skills in that area!

Computer Science, Cognitive Science
What inspired you to pursue Engineering?
Growing up, I realized how much Computer Science does to change the world around me. Provided I loved problem solving and teamwork, deciding on a career path in CS was an easy choice. Further, I was fascinated by human behavior and so doubled in Cognitive Science while exploring opportunities at Rice.
What is your favorite thing about attending / being at Rice University?
No doubt about it; playing basketball at the Rice Recreation Center. Playing highlighted several qualities of the Rice experience - there is a community bond even between strangers, students are focused on self improvement, and a healthy competitive environment fosters quality learning.

Beyond preparing future leaders in technology with technical skills and experience with advanced technologies, Rice ELITE Tech camps also provide leadership training to our campers through various engineering leadership labs. Campers practice working on technical teams to accomplish their goals.. and have some fun along the way.

Part of the Rice ELITE Tech track “Learning Python to Solve Mechanical Engineering Problems” is the thermal behavior experiment!
Teams put their algorithms to the test to see if they could predict the boiling point to cook an apple - these smiles say our teams were successful! Using computer code to predict thermal energy behavior Is a valuable tool in an engineer’s skillset!
