We are sorry to learn of Dr. Laura Lovett's passing. She was a well-known historian who was the author of Conceiving the Future: Pronatalism, Reproduction, and the Family in the United States, 1890-1930, a second book titled With Her Fist Raised: Dorothy Pitman Hughes and the Transformative Power of Black Community Activism, and co-editor of "It's Our Movement Now:" Black Women's Politics and the 1977 National Women's Conference. Laura L. Lovett (1963-2025) Our dear colleague Laura Lovett passed away unexpectedly on March 4, 2025. Laura joined Pitt’s History Department and its Gender, Sexuality, & Women’s Studies Program in 2018 after teaching for many years at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

The University of Houston held its Undergraduate Research Day yesterday. This is an event where REACH interns--6 of whom work on the Sharing Stories project--show off some of what they've learned via posters they created. Today is the 6th anniversary of NY delegate Eleanor G. Bailey's death. Bailey was an activist for women's rights and worked for the US Post Office.
