Celebrating Lunar New Year with my grandson, BEN Children's Museum Houston
Make-A-Wish Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana welcomed wish kids William and Madeline from Make-A-Wish Wisconsin, and The Bayou City showed them our famous southern hospitality! These siblings share the same nervous system disorder. They wanted their wishes to be granted together, so William and Madeline each chose experiences they could only have in Houston.
Fascinated by construction and heavy equipment, William chose to visit Dig World in Katy. The owners and staff at Dig World opened the park for a private day of fun for William and his family. He drove all of the equipment on site, including a front loader and excavator! Before he left, Dig World provided him some exclusive souvenirs to take home.
Then, our longtime partners E.E. Reed Construction took William to an active construction site, where they gave him some unique insight into the industry and let him tour the project. Notice the personalized hardhat E.E. Reed Construction provided—safety first!
For her activities, Madeline chose trips to the Houston Zoo and Children's Museum Houston.
Thank you to Dig World and E.E. Reed Construction for making William and Madeline’s visit so memorable!

As 2022 comes to a close, we’re so proud of the wonderful partnerships we established throughout the year!
This holiday season, MECA and Casa San Jose collaborated to host a mini winter learning camp for residents of Brookdale Village Apartments. Students who regularly attend tutorials and the homework assistance program staffed by MECA during the school year were also invited to participate in the camp.
The learning camp offered Safety and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) classes, helping bridge the digital divide through computerized tutorials. Students also enjoyed six days of fun learning activities and fieldtrips to the Children's Museum Houston and Fort Bend Children's Discovery Center.
A special thank you to our volunteers from the University of Houston’s Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science organization for helping provide mentorship and tutoring to our students during this winter learning camp.
We look forward to hosting many more educational camps and workshops for our students next year!
If you would like to make a donation to MECA this holiday season and support the work we do in the Houston community, please visit:
