A special thank you to the Ladies of the House from House of Hope Church’s women’s ministry for spending time with us and helping provide 50 meals for our August 22 outreach event. Your generosity helped us meet people in vulnerable situations with something tangible: a meal, care, and connection.
We’re also grateful to Project Girls Houston for hosting and leading this important outreach effort, and to Avenue 360 for joining us to provide health information and free HIV testing.

On August 22, we joined Project Girls Houston and Avenue 360 for a community outreach event focused on meeting people where they are.

Throughout the event, we connected with individuals who may be experiencing trafficking or exploitation, providing care bags, meals, information, and connections to available resources and support.

We’re grateful to Project Girls Houston for leading this effort and for the opportunity to show up alongside community partners, build trust, and help connect individuals to support when they need it most. 💙

Education today can shape the care survivors receive tomorrow.

UAHT had the opportunity to host 12 first-year UTHealth Houston medical students for a day focused on building a stronger understanding of human trafficking, challenging common misconceptions, and connecting what they are learning as future physicians to the realities of the community they will serve.

Research suggests that 68–88% of trafficked persons encounter a healthcare professional during their period of exploitation, making healthcare settings an important opportunity for recognition, support, and connection to resources.

We hope experiences like this help prepare future medical professionals to recognize vulnerability, respond with compassion and dignity, and understand the important role they can play in a survivor’s journey.

Thank you to these students and our partners for spending the day learning alongside us. Together, we are helping shape a more informed and responsive future for survivors.

This past Wednesday, we welcomed 12 first-year UTHealth Houston medical students for a day of learning, conversation, and connection with our community.

By helping future physicians better understand human trafficking, challenge common misconceptions, and respond with dignity and care, we hope to help shape a future where more survivors are recognized, supported, and connected to resources.

Following our August Coalition Meeting, we were honored to welcome Detective Garcia and Lieutenant Rivera from the Houston Police Department’s Human Trafficking Office, who shared insights into the planning, coordination, and around-the-clock efforts that helped protect our community during the FIFA World Cup™️ matches hosted in Houston.

Major international events can increase vulnerabilities to human trafficking, making collaboration more important than ever. Through the coordinated efforts of law enforcement, service providers, and community partners, Houston was prepared to respond.

During their presentation, detectives shared the impact of those efforts, including:
• 24 trafficking survivors recovered (21 adults and 3 juveniles)
• 10 suspected traffickers charged
• Recovery of cash and two vehicles recovered

We are grateful to the Houston Police Department and to every Coalition partner whose dedication and collaboration help strengthen our community’s response to human trafficking.

For over 20 years, United Against Human Trafficking has believed that lasting impact happens when organizations work together. Thank you to everyone committed to building a safer Houston.
